Valve has 'three pretty big surprises' over the next year photo

Portal 2 coming to the PlayStation 3 with Steam support was Valve's big E3 surprise earlier this year. It wasn't, to most gamers' dismay, the reveal of Half-Life 3 or even Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Hang tight, because there are more surprises in store. Three of 'em.

"I can guarantee you people are going to be surprised at stuff we do," Valve's Gabe Newell told PC Gamer. "That isn't going to stop any time soon. I'm just laughing because … people will be shocked again."

"We have three pretty big surprises in the next 12 months at least," he adds.

Valve has recently trademarked Defense of the Ancients, prompting speculation that an updated version of the real-time strategy games is imminent. And one has to wonder what Gordan Freeman has been up to these days…

Half Life Episode 3 (the fans may turn rabid if another HL void year goes by), this Defence of the Ancients thing, and...?

More Portal 2/L4D/TF2 DLC as well I hope, but that's pretty standard and I wouldn't class that as a big suprise.

Unless it's Half Life 3 (It CAN'T be an episode at this point!) or Team Fortress 3...I don't really care. Team Fortress 3...

They'll probably put the information out for the next iteration of Half-Life exactly 12 months after that statement. Gordon Freeman, tally-ho!

I know what it is. Portal 2 Deathmatch (Free download on Steam); TF2 addon pack and L4D DLC. Half-Life is dead.

Yes. I would be very surprised if Half Life 2: Episode 3 was cancelled.

Ahh...

But I like the idea of a new engine, with Episode 3 becoming a full game (which I would completely pay for). I would humor Gabe with my surprise just to see it happen.

@shael after all the effort for them to update counterstrike source they wouldnt bother for a long while plus even if it was released next year fall time, no1 would play it until the next year, valve seems to learn from mistakes.

TF3 is a no no i mean they finaly got a class update for every class why make a new game when people have everything?

I suspect its guna be hl2:ep3, (hopfly not)lfd3 and a new ip or a new game the last new one as alien swarm but that was free and just a better graphicd and diffrent engined mod.
Or they will say they are thinking of making a new game idea

I bet the reason that Episode 3 is so delayed is because they don't know how to end the current story arc. There are too many questions to be answered at ths point. The gameplay of the Half Life series has always been best in the business, but the conclusions to each storyline have been very disappointing so far.

Nothing is ever explained. Who does the G-Man work for? Why City 17? What is the whole point to any of this?

Half-Life 2: Episode Three, DoTA and the public release of a new engine called MOtiv.

Episode Three will drop in December (Ice=Christmas)
DoTA god knows what
MOtiv will be a new engine that will let developers put a lot more immersion into their FPS games, so the game doens't feel like a camera running, but rather a Gears of War like shooter in First Person (but of course, without all the shit that making a F-TPS game means, like the gun being off screen and moving around too much)
