With all the talk of corporate takeovers and soul stealing that have been going on lately, one company certainly isn't quick to dismiss the idea of being swallowed up by corporate demons.
Valve's Doug Lombardi has stated he would be "happy to have that conversation" when asked about the possibility of his company being taken over. The house that Gordon Freeman built isn't actively looking to be acquired, with Lombardi adding: "The company's doing pretty well, and we're really happy with what we're doing. So we'll see. I mean, anything is possible."
A natural candidate for future Valve acquisition would, of course, be Electronic Arts, who is known to have a good working relationship with the company. "EA was very progressive about saying, 'We understand who you guys are," explained Lombardi. "'We understand what Steam is. We don't want Steam to go away.' Well, they might want Steam to go away, but they're not asking us to make Steam go away."
If EA would also like to acquire myself, I am open to the idea of John Ricitiello mounting a hostile takeover.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
But I like Valve being independent, I like them being their own publisher. It makes me like them more, for some reason.
I doubt you'd see the level of support Valve have for games post-release either, although the content updates for Burnout: Paradise are a sign of good things I guess.

I wonder if Valve realizes they could be the ones to throw PC gaming to its doom by selling out to EA.
I feel like I'm being screwed while playing EA games (so many little downloads, protections, keys, bar codes, specs, etc)
But I feel like I'm being loved by Valve (amazing free updates when I least expect it, reasonably priced games, accessible engines, nice to mods, actually good business ethics, great design team, humble approach to game design, etc)
I'd love it if Sony bought them out forcibly, for the irony.
EA isn't as much of a bad guy as they used to. Like it or not, game development and production is a business. Stop saying ridiculous things like "OMG i r gonna stop using teh STeem if EA gives valev $$$ 4 it".
But they don't HAVE to merge. Business has many strategies - sometimes it means holding out and becoming equal (or greater) to another company, becoming the new standard, or merging. Personally I think Valve has the ability to do the first two things.
Albeit the only advantage I could see is the possibility of Valve getting more funding and employees, meaning they could release things with a little more frequency, but not making them a game farm. I want HL2: Ep.3 dammit!
Also, you n00bs who are talking about Black Mesa as though they are the bad guys? Um, no. Wrong. Black Mesa is a research facility. Gordon worked for them, he didn't fight them. In order for your metaphor to work, EA would have to be the Combine.
needless to say i was sorely disappointed. you've let me down dtoid shoopers / painters.
EA and Valve merger confirmed. Look out ActiBlizzard, Electronic Valve/Valve Arts is at your doorstep.
