Also, I beat the singleplayer. I was not disappointed in any way. Lived up to my incredible hype.
I'm voting with my wallet and skipping this game.
This crap they're spewing may not be gold but it's shinin', man!
Can't wait for the user created levels. This is a step in the right direction for both PC gaming and consoles. Hell, it isn't like I can't use a keyboard and mouse on consoles anyway.
This has nothing to do with Portal 2 itself- I ordered the game but it's in the mail now, haven't played it yet- rather with Valve's weird marketing scheme.
Look at it this way- they led us through an (incredibly) complicated puzzle with the promise of an early release of a game, and then the final puzzle turned out to be unwinnable. There was no way to get P2 out early, and then when the game *did* come out, it's loaded with Day 1 DLC and other useless junk that TF2 is now famous for.
I'm not complaining about the quality of the game, I know Valve is pretty consistently good with that sort of thing, but even an 8-hour playthrough is just 'okay' for a $50 title.
I don't know, I just don't think the butthurt complainers are completely unbased. There are legitimate reasons to be angry about Portal 2, I just don't think their rage should be *quite* as palpable.
Little whiny kids can drive scores down. Reviewers for some podunk website that wants to make a name for itself can rate a game negative, just to get a reaction. Or if the reviewer just has a beef with a particular developer, or if they just aren't interested in a game, they can rate it really low even if the game is good. People give low reviews just to make the overall score lower, which is a spiteful thing to do. Or they rate it high, because they are a super fanboy that won't see anything bad.
It is dumb, and open to griefing.
@Jim, not that I'm complaining, and I agree with everything in your article, but... I've seen you write this article 3, maybe 4 times so far this year. I'm really not sure what to take from that. I'm not saying you should stop writing about it, because it's a current event in the gaming world, and is therefore relevant. I guess it's just kind of rage inducing that this article has to be relevant so often.
Also, maybe its not a mini-game, but its not quite worth $40-$50 for a 6 hour game with no replay value whatsoever. I will wait for the inevitable Steam sale.
There's no Day 1 DLC, it's a store for coop items (and you don't have to buy anything to enjoy the game. it's completely optional)
It's not a port, it was obviously developed with PC users in mind (and I must say that Source looks rather good considering it's a 2003 engine)

Big props for the PC copy in the PS3 box however, I wish more games would do the same.
Srsly? I didn't know there'd be that much butthurt. Over what exactly? Cosmetic shit? don't buy it then...
Portal 2 = GOTY.
*off to play World of Tanks*

I also have read a lot that people have beaten the single player in 4 hours and are posting achievments/steam unlocks with time to prove it.
how can you understand the DLC complaints? the "dlc" (hats were never called DLC in TF2, by the way) is completely pointless and is not needed for most people. It's not BioWare cutting a part of the game and selling it seperately. It's just some cool texture, some cool model for you co-op robot. Some animations.
Stuff only the person you play with will see (that is, in most cases, one of your friends). And stuff that doesn't influence the gameplay in any way.
And mind you, i'm almost 100% sure that if there is any actual DLC (with actual content not just visual stuff), it will come for free (on PC and PS3, at least) as it did with l4d or tf2. I mean, come on - they are giving the actual maps, characters, voiceovers, stories and all the important stuff for free, by funding it with some small meaningless and unimportant stuff like hats. Stuff you don't HAVE to buy to eventually get some cool stuff for free. And people complain about that. What's wrong with people today:/
morons
I'm not playing it because I'm working, but the only thing I can think about is when I'm done and I can play it again.
