There is no day 1 dlc, they are hats, the hats are included with the game, and most of them are unlocked with achievements; if the trolls would actually play the game they would realize that.
As far as the length of the game goes, I beat it in about 6 hours, but I was moving fairly quickly, and I missed a ton of stuff, so much so, that I'm going to go back and play through it again to see everything. I haven't even touched co-op yet, so I really feel like it was a purchase well made.
A 45.99 dollar purchase on steam fyi, even now its still 50 bucks, which is the norm for any valve pc game. You guys pay 60 dollars for any console game, so why does that version of portal 2 have to be any different?
The main argument is that it has the shop, and people don't realize those items can be unlocked just like they are in TF2.
"Oh BOO HOO, you entitled, spoiled, pathetic little twats. Nobody promised anything."
Sounds more like a raging 14 year old, then a professial journalist. Pure gold right here.
If you hate Portal 2, you're what's wrong with the gaming industry.
As for the "not worth $60" crowd, that's something everyone has to decide for himself -- but it's easy to tell that the amount of work and attention to detail that went into Portal 2 are comparable to other premium games.
I dont want to come off like a troll since i feel like i'm largly in the same boat as you, being an avid steam user, but i dont really get the latter part about the potato sack.
Didn't you say you've bought every valve game? What use would a complete pack be to you? And i bouth the potato sack and only bothered to get 18 of the things. It isn't like they took anything away from you.
Not to defend them like a hammer-legion member, but i feel like that complaint falls into the same realm of entitlement that this post discusses.
I suppose it can't be helped. Expanding on the setting of the original is sort of par for the course in terms of losing sight of what made the original so unique in its approach. P2 definitely fails to capture the "feel" of the first, but that's not a big enough concern that I'd rail against it.
The ending song is crap, though.
all i have to say about that is i used to be able to fill up my gas tank for $20. now i'm lucky to get half a tank for the same price.
what the hell makes PC gamers think that their hobby should be exempt from basic laws of inflation? either the price of the game increases, or the amount of content decreases.
You don't want to spend money on costumes? Don't. I won't be buying them. I also didn't buy the horse armor pack for Oblivion, either. I didn't piss and moan about them selling it, I just didn't buy it.
You get the entire game when you buy it. You don't lose out on ANY game play if you don't buy the costumes. They aren't selling less than a full game, expecting you to pay again in order to play it all. If they were doing that, that would be a legitimate complaint. That you don't get some costumes for free is not.
Suck in that lip, wipe off those tears, and grow the hell up.
Since when were we talking about the average PC gamer?
Get your head out of your ass, this is an article about Portal 2 trolls, not PC gamers.
This is fucking retarded.
People complain because there's DLC, and this is apparently the first game to ever use such a money-grabbing scheme. Also, it's apparently mandatory.
PCfags bitch because they don't understand that their console IS a console, so calling it one MAKES ABSOLUTE SENSE.
And then the fickle morons actually complain about tutorials...
Also, it amuses how people complain for non affecting gameplay cosmetic item but they're happy to pay overpriced DLC Map Packs that they HAVE to get em in order to get the full experience andbeing left behind (Call of duty says Hi).
How dare they release Electric Boogaloo Barbie AND her friend Trick-Ass Skipper on the same day! I should get both of them!
How dare they release special stylus packs available on the same day as the 3DS launch and not give me those for free!
How dare Cletus Bungle and the Renaissance Douchebags release an album and also a deluxe special edition of an album the same day that I have to pay more money for! All that extra stuff should be mine!
There are some truly heinous ways that videogame publishers are ripping gamers off (online passes, for one), and you complain about EXTRA content, about their actually GIVING you more for a nominal fee rather than taking things AWAY from you if you don't pay more?
Stop being infantile pricks. Valve DOES treat you better than probably 99% of publishers out there. Fucking appreciate it.
As to the ARG what not essentially being a midnight release for the game, whatever. I think what people are slightly upset about is there are probably people who purchased the potato sack after it was clear that it would potentially unlock portal 2 early. Only to have portal two release a hand full of hours early, I can see why they would be upset at spending $30+ for a midnight release. But hell that's on them, not enough of the sack games looked interesting enough for me to bother with it as a whole. So I didn't.
The thing I really don't care for is the zero day DLC, yeah it has nothing to do with the game itself.... but your also not dealing with people your dealing with marketing and if this non invasive DLC is a "huge success" they are going to mark it down as DLC as "People buy DLC, lets use it more!"
Its far better to deal with an issue when its still a non issue. Instead of waiting until that non issue has grown up into a massive issue and point of SOP (standard operating policy/procedure).
Evidently, now Valve fans are the worst.
Hours of co-op were the best two hours of 'friend gaming' since first playing 'the 11th hour' wowim old balls... But seriously. I couldn't get the smile off my face.
You've got your tongue so far up Gabe's ass you forgot the taste of anything that isn't shit.
Stay classy, fatty.
Let's just send the message that microtransactions are just fine, everybody, cause that exactly what games need more of these days...microtransactions.
I look at it all as humor anyhow. It's fun to see how passionate gamers are, regardless of the standing point.
Game in good health!
Jim, get your facts straight first.
The boys working on the ARG were pissed off 'cause the "early released" was rigged from the start. Not 'cause it was released late. And 'cause of the extensive trolling that denied third parties did. Also, they were tricked into believing the ending of Portal 2 was part of the ARG.
A lot of portal fans were pissed off 'cause they had everything about Portal 2 spoiled for them on the official forums 'cause of trolls - The 360 version had leaked out. Spoiler threads and the ending videos
Some golden potato folks were mad 'cause Valve loyalists didn't get anything of from
from the reward, while those who had never bought a Valve game got Valves entire collection including Portal 2 for free.
-Some- people were pissed off at the day 1 DLC, 'cause the development time spent on that could have been on something more important.
The rest of the "ragers" were just trolls or morons.
And the Singleplayer CAN be completed in four hours. It's hard. But not impossible.
Disclaimer:These facts do not necessarily reflect my opinions but rather what truly happened. I felt the need to write this 'cause you were mixing in groups that didn't have anything to do with the "negative reviews" on metacritic.
Those users are worried that this game will turn into TF2's man store, however luckally this store has nothing to do with the gameplay or even effects the multiplayer exscept costumizes the look of your robot.
It was sad when the man store hit TF2 cause it really turned the game away from skilled vs skilled to skilled vs people with money that can get way overpowered iteams. before all of that rubish and before people could craft wepons TF2 was pritty balanced and the man store sort of opened pandora's box of uneven iteams onto the playing feild.
That said, I feel that the overall length of the games are somewhat comparable due to the omissions of the advanced challenge rooms and time trial sections that were present in Portal. They added so much replay value and while I will play through Portal 2 multiple times again, I really really hope they add in something similar later down the line.
