Valve has announced a brand new downloadable chapter for both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2, The Sacrifice. Set before the events of The Passing, it will details exactly how one of the original four survivors met their grisly end.
The Sacrifice will star Francis, Zoey, Bill and Louis, even if you play it via Left 4 Dead 2. Valve is not only giving L4D2 players a chance to play as the originals survivors without loading the original, it's also throwing the entire No Mercy campaign into the DLC, just for good measure.
So, if you would rather decide who dies instead of Valve, you'll do well to download The Sacrifice. It'll be free on PC and Mac and cost money on Xbox 360 (because screw Microsoft) and a release date is yet to be confirmed. Valve also confirmed that there will be more Left 4 Dead 2 DLC after this, and isn't that nice?

Shit. Good news anyway. I'm surprised by the L4D2 support for this. What nice chaps! Also, does this mean we can play through No Mercy with the new special infected or will it simply be a carbon copy of the first game (which is fine...I guess).

I love Left 4 Dead so I'm ducking pumped for this. On the L4D blog they recently had a poll about how Bill died. Both PC/360 said "by a Tank" with "overrrun by Zombies" coming in second.
Either way it's about time, since I probably have more love for the first game (but still appreciate all the extra SI and Mutations of the second)
And No Mercy in L4D2? FUCKING AWESOME!!!

Regardless, this seems cool, but I think it should just be for the first game. The whole point of their continued support was to show fans they didn't give up on older games. Making it for both doesn't show that.
Because it's the most popular map in L4D
I hope they deal with death of the original survivor with a little more dignity than they did in LFD2. Seeing poor Bill slumped up against that generator without any form of story about his passing just made his death feel cheap.
Well that is after all what this new DLC will explain. Obviously Bill died doing something to save his comrades and of course "The Passing" just shows the aftermath.
It's a personal ban. I just don't like Left 4 Dead 2 at all.
