The Valkyrie Profile series doesn't get talked about very often, but I actually quite enjoy it and am looking forward to the new title for the DS, The Accursed One. The Japanese trailer introduces us to some new faces and gives us a gander at the gameplay.

There's only one thing about this upcoming title that makes me feel a little sketchy: tri-Ace is developing, and while they have developed the previous titles as well, my recent brush with Infinite Undiscovery has me wanting to steer clear of their work for a little while. Of course, not everything they design will be the same, so I'll likely put my gut feeling aside and check this one out anyway. What say you, Dtoid masses?

[Thanks, Adam]

Of course the original was great and rare enough to be hundreds of dollars, but the one on the ps2? Psh very average

I'm delighted to hear someone whose opinion I really respect express some dissapointment in Infinite Undiscovery. I was starting to feel like a bad person because of it. I absolutely adore Tri-Ace. I use the Valkyrie Profile series to justify that claim. I love those games, and the victory music for the first VP is actually the ringtone on my cell phone 50% of the time (I alternate it with a track from Wild Arms). Even the quirky Radiata Stores was a real treat. Infinite Undiscovery though . . . wooweee what a stinker.

@Mr Gilder -- thank you, I take that as a compliment! I just feel like UI was a miss for tri-Ace...certainly not going to condemn them over one game.

DS is shaping up to be the medium of choice for J-RPGS...who'd have thunk it?

I have high hopes for this. I think Infinite Undiscovery was just to ambitious for them, which is why it turned out so crappy. This should hopefully turn out fine.

@Prince

How so? DS JRPGS have been ports.

Also, tri-ace, this means its going to suck, it seems they blew their wad during the PS1 era and now they have nothing, such a shame.

Nice to see Lenneth and Freya (especially Freya..grrowl) back. I hope the tactical element of the gameplay turns out well.

I'm afraid I'm a bit confused. I don't understand how this game is played; looks like a tactics-type game, but different. Would someone mind explaining it to me?

I am definitely excited about this game. Even though tri-Ace seems to have been producing not so stellar games recently, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Not every developer is going to make an outstanding game every time, so lets just hope for the best. With this and the new Star Ocean remakes for the PSP coming out, I hope tri-Ace can turn a new leaf by showing what their main series games can do. Plus I always love the plots and character developments in the Valkyrie Profile games! Valkyrie Profile is one of my favorite games so I got to hope for the best with this iteration!

Too much cinematics, not enough gameplay.

In any case, I'll be watching this carefully....

tri-Ace's shortcoming lately are things I'm willing to place on Square's dominance. I'm trying to be positive and say that IU was a step in direction of them moving back to what made the original Star Oceans so great. I'm holding out some hope for SO4.

I'm bitterly disappointed in Infinite Undiscovery. The only reason I want to play through it is to finish the Seraphic Gate. I saw some footage of when you first enter the gate, and it seems like it'd be at least bearable. I never really liked Radiata Stories, and for some reason IU reminds me of Radiata.

In the case of the other games tri-Ace is developing, I still have hope. I will be buying a DS for Valkyrie Profile, and I of course will pick up Star Ocean 4.

Really hope it's more like the original and less like the sequel.

Man, I loved VP1 so much. Just hearing the music again in this trailer gave me a shiver.

That said, I don't have a DS and didn't bother trying the PS2 version. I thought the character art featured looked more like fanart than what a company should be coming up with, and I don't know if ripping of Tactics is the right, well, tactic.

At the very least, I'll probably get a new desktop image out of it ;)

I saw 2D and cheered.
I noticed the isometric perspective and winced...
Strategy RPG in MY Profile Project?

I'll wait and see. Do want new VP, yes, but do want VP SRPG? Hm...

@Colette Bennett -- I certainly won't give up on them either. Star Ocean 4 will surely please us.
