Valkyria Chronicles sales jump 400% due to price cut photo

There are quite a few fans of Valkyria Chronicles on the Destructoid staff, myself included -- solid gameplay, breathtaking art and a beautiful story is the kind of combination in a game that's hard to beat. At the $59.99 price point, however, the game suffered a little saleswise in the states. After a price cut, however, things have been looking up -- and recently Sega announced a 400% sales increase for April (as compared to March). What a pleasure to see such a worthy game performing so well!

I personally purchased the game at the $59.99 price point and feel that it's more than worth it, but perhaps the current economic climate simply outweighs the human desire to buy every game that strikes one's fancy. At any rate, the price drop is not a permanent one, so if you haven't gotten a copy yet you should do so now while you still can.

Maybe more developers will follow with this, and they'll cut their prices so they can see a profit as well. Or this game will have enough sales to see the sequel that the creators are interested in doing. I'd be one incredibly happy man if I see either of these two happen soon.

Yeah, but how many copies did they sell last month?

If they only sold 5, then 20 copies is a 400% increase.

Just being an ass.

Anyway, it's good to see this selling better, maybe I'll finally pick it up myself.

It's too bad that other companies (cough Sony) don't understand the concept.

400%? That's a big number.

I bought it when it came out too. Probably at $70 up here though.

Well, unlike Shinji Hashimoto, I'm sure there are gonna be discussions of a sequel.

I was planning on buying the game when it's price was cut, but when I finally scraped together $30 dollars to buy it, every retailer jacked their prices back up to $60 dollars. This about a month or two ago.

My opinion of this game would probably be close to Yahtzee's. I just don't like JRPGs in general. The last one I remember having a lot of fun with was Tales of Symphonia.

Also can be said if 5000 were sold, then its 20,000 now.

That's uncanny. I just got a copy yesterday... and I don't even own a PS3 yet.

I was watching an old Valkyria Chronicles game review and decided it was worth a purchase in the (eventually inevitable) event that I fork out the bucks for a PS3. The $40 price was a very welcome surprise.

I don't mean to be a money-pinching douche bag, but I can't believe a 16 dollar price slash made the sales rise that high.. well jump "400" percent. As much as I want to play the game, I'll probably wait till it hits the 20-30 price range.

I got it new at Gamestop for $30 a month ago and it swiftly became one of my favorite games of ALL TIME.

For those frightened that it's a JRPG, I can assure that it's NOT. It's a wartime strategy game, akin to Advance Wars or Fire Emblem (only really, really pretty). It's one of THE reasons to own a PS3.

Honestly, this game completely revived, and changed the SRPG genre forever. It should have sold at least as much as Disgaea 3, and other recent ventures.

That said, I'm still waiting to pick my copy up! I can't find one.

If I owned a PS3 this would be one of the top 3 games I'd own. Right next to Disgaea 3 and Cross Edge.

Still not sure about this one, only because I'm not a fan of SRPGs. God, so tempting though.

I got this game for $39 by getting a used copy from GS with a 30% off coupon like one month after launch.

This after I tried for WEEKS to get SOMEONE to honor that stupid Circuit City add where it was $40 a week after launch.

CC didn't even have a LISTING for the game in its system and as such, other stores wouldn't price match a game that CC couldn't confirm they actually had AVAILABLE on sale.

I'm not much into SRPGs, but the general love this one inspires convinced me to pick it up whenever I eventually get a PS3. The price drop helps too!

It's faster than the average SRPG battle, right? Part of my problem with the genre is how freakishly slow the combat tends to go.

It shows up as $59.99 on Gamestop (though it is sold out online;) $43.99 on Amazon.

Best Buy doesn't seem to carry it at all. Target doesn't carry it. $39.99 at Wal-Mart but it's sold out online and only one store within 100 miles has a copy. Toys R Us doesn't carry it.

In short, if I wanted to go out and buy the game in-person I'd be paying $59.99 at the local gamestop.

It really is a damn shame that this game isn't getting nearly as much cred as it deserves. It's Sega finally producing some new IP that isn't complete and utter fail. It's one of the few reasons I picked up a PS3. It's certainly a beautiful game, though I guess it would turn away people who dislike anime-style artwork.

I have to admit that the game's weird mechanic of being shot at only as the character that you're controlling is fairly odd though.

@Scientist tz: Why do you want to "go out and buy the game in-person"? Amazon + free shipping = win.

And lol, %400 discount. They'd be giving YOU money ;)

"A very good game. Worth every penny...except for the DLC."

Everyone should own "Behind Her Blue Flames." The Edy mission is a different ball of wax, since - while I found it fun and hilarious - opinions about it are pretty mixed. And the Hard EX mode is only for the most hardcore of VC nerds (of which I would count myself). But yeah, "Behind Her Blue Flames" is easily worth the extra five bucks.
