The latest issue of Famitsu has revealed Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the PSP. The subtitle is something along the lines of "Royal War College" and will be out this Winter in Japan. No word on an America release yet.
The game will be set in 1937, two years after the first Valkyria Chronicles and the new characters will be dealing with some kind of imperial invasion. The new city is called Ranshiel and the character design from the mag scan makes it look like VC 2 is going for more of an anime look. Not sure how I feel about that quite yet.
Don't know about you, but I'm really happy that a sequel to such a great RPG is on the way. How about you?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If there's one thing they should improve, it's the sort of "randomness" of the fighting accuracy and how sometimes you blindly rush into traps and objectives that are told alittle late.
Other than that, YAY!
You mean i may get to play the series I lusted over most on the ps3 but didnt have a ps3 or intention to buy a ps3 just for on a system I DO own?
First day Buy.
As good as VC was, I doubt it'll be able to drag my Monster Hunter UMD out of my PSP.
Feel sorry for all the VC fans who don't have a PSP and hesitant to buy one.
Yay PSP!
What if the psp version isn't as good as its older brother
I imagine its a really simple reason: Money. Valkyria Chronicles 1 was received very well but didn't sell well. So instead of putting the money and effort into a big console sequel, they went the portable route which is no doubt a lot cheaper. Its good to see Sega at least keep the franchise alive.
I'll miss the Canvas engine, but the game controls are simple enough that it should translate well to the PSP. I hope the graphics have are cel shaded like the Naruto or Dragon Ball Z games. I'm worried about this game hitting the US so I may import it.
Now I HAVE to buy a PSP.
Better come on UMD, I can't afford a Go.
Unfortunately, some of you PS3 owners didn't support Valkyria enough (kudos if you did), and Sega lost out, so its only natural they shift the series to a platform that would shift it more. It was a nice PS3 exclusive, but its lack of sales spoilt a great game, from getting the success it truly deserves.
Great stuff, I can now support this game like I wanted to, and have it with me on the go. Thanks Sega, smart move.
Actually nobody supported valkyria, hell the game was suppose to come out on the 360 but ms slamed the door shut in sega's face(it wasn't supposed to be exclusive).
Then when the game came out sega didnt do anything to help avertise, hell sony did more to avertise that game than sega(and when sonys lousy marketing out does you, you screwed up), and unagbangkay advertised more than those two companys put together.
It was like all of planet earth was against this game.
@Noah
They were waiting for Sony to get the hardware right. So right, that there's nowhere to go but wrong again. HEYO!
Well cheers for that info, I wasn't aware of that.
I think Sega should have another shot at getting the original onto 360. After all 360 got Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia, its a more friendly place for jrpgs now.
I'm not really sure if very wise, 360 is more friendlier to jrpg's than it used to be at the beginning but well, VC is strategy jrpg, a rather niche genre and rpg's in general are not at the top of the gamelist of most 360 owners, so I don't think it would be worth the effort. Then again I might be wrong.
This just gives me another reason to get a PSPgo ^_^
If there's some kind of multiplayer, I wouldn't be surprised if the concept was also similar in execution.
Well actually they thought about a port and after looking at the overall sales of rpgs on the 360 they seemed to be of a different opinion.
Accordidng to them they heavily tailored the engine to the ps3 when ms slammed the door on them, so the cost of undoing a lot of the engine and fitting it to the 360 would outstrip any profit made in sales (not to mention there a bit of a space issue again thanks to dvd, so in comes the double disk dev cost).
so not to burst your hopes or anything but it doesn't look like a ports happening. Not to mention we still don't know why exactly ms said no to the game( the rumour is that ms wanted content cut out so it would fit on 1 disk, and they didn't want to gimp the game, but this is a RUMOUR, so don't take it to heart).
Thanks. It seemed illogical to make it available to the audience who bought and made the first one such a cult hit anyways.
You seem a fountain of knowledge, Black Nexus. Thanks for the info, Guess its MS own loss then.
Those scans look cool, making me want it more.
This makes me wonder, if Atlus would ever consider porting Operation Darkness to PSP. We never got it in EU/U.K on 360.
