Valkyria Chronicles 2 hits North America in 2010 photo

We all knew that Valkyria Chronicles 2 was being made for the PlayStation Portable, but Sega of America likes to think we're stupid and is pretending nobody had heard about it until today. Luckily, the publisher did have some fresh information for us, notably the news that Valkyria Chronicles 2 will be hitting Western shored in the summer of 2010.

Valkyria Chronicles 2 is the sequel to a critically acclaimed PS3 strategy game, famed for its beautiful visuals, unique alternative history setting, and tactical gameplay. The sequel has made a unique move to the PSP, and it seems that the portable format will be the franchise's home from here on out.

Hit the jump for the official announcement.

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (16th September 2009) –SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that Valkyria Chronicles™ II, is coming exclusively to the PLAYSTATION® portable. PSP owners will be able to experience the highly acclaimed mix of distinctive visuals and addictive gameplay first seen in Valkyria Chronicles™, one of the most highly reviewed tactical RPGs ever to appear on the PLAYSTATION® 3 computer entertainment system.

The story of Valkyria Chronicles II takes place two years after the conclusion of the original game. A group of young Gallian Military Academy cadets find themselves plunged into a bitter civil war when the newly formed Gallian Revolutionary Army stages a coup. As the epic drama unfolds in the game, players will experience stories of friendship, love and growing pains during a time of war and revolution.

“Valkyria Chronicles received widespread critical acclaim when it launched on PS3 last year,” said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd. “It has quickly become one of our most respected franchises, so we’re delighted to be able to continue the saga on the PSP. We hope that fans of the series will enjoy the freedom of experiencing Valkyria wherever they are and that a new audience will be able to discover the universe on their PSPs.”

The “CANVAS” engine, originally developed internally by SEGA Game Studios Japan for Valkyria Chronicles™ on the PLAYSTATION 3, is being fully redesigned for the graphical capabilities of the PSP. This incredibly distinctive engine will power over 20 new distinct and visually stunning environments within which players will have hundreds of different missions to explore.

Valkyria Chronicles’ “BLiTZ” battle system has also been re-designed to offer players the freedom to strategically move around the environment and attack enemies using real-time controls, something never before seen in the tactical role-playing game genre.

Valkyria Chronicles™ II will be available for the PLAYSTATION® Portable in summer 2010.

soooooooooooooooooooo lame that this isn't on PS3.

I won't buy a PSP Sony, no matter how many of my favorite PS franchises you tack on there.

Great! I can probably play Disgaea 2 on my PSP non-stop from now until the summer 2010 release date to pass the time.

So, it sold well on the ps3, so they alienate their crowd and shove it on the psp.

I'm confused about this logic.

It started selling well just before they announced this, so I doubt it was all planned.

@Handy

Then justify it for the large number of other good titles on the psp, not to mention the emulation possibilities.
