Vague press release is vague: EA Partners teams up with Starbreeze to do stuff screenshot

EA Partners has announced that it has teamed up with The Darkness developer Starbreeze Studios to do ... something. That something is reinventing an unnamed EA classic franchise. But this is not just any franchise; we're talking about one of their "most acclaimed classic franchises." Codenamed internally as "Project RedLime," the title is in production for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. And that's really about all we know, unfortunately.

"EA Partners is thrilled to hand over the keys to one of EA’s most acclaimed franchises to Starbreeze Studios," says mayor of Vagueville and vice president and general manager of EA Partners, David DeMartini.  "The team is creating an incredibly innovative take on a classic property and EA Partners is poised to deliver a blockbuster launch on the global stage."

While I'm hoping Starbreeze will be developing next year's Madden or NBA Live, it's more likely to be something a bit more action/kill-things-with-guns oriented. I guess we'll know more when EA and Starbreeze decide to reveal some sort of information about some game sometime in the kind of near future.

I would pay 60 for road rash remake if it were good. I want to see lag free online races up to 60 people. Make it happen EA.

It's totally Road Rash.

Wasn't something brought up earlier this week about Road Rash? Maybe during an interview at GDC? With some guy from EA?

Either way... its Road Rash.

P.S. MR. Destructoid better be a playable character. Smacking people with purple dildos on the highway is what I need.

In 1080p.

Road Rash seems the most likely to me. Although System Shock was thrown out there, it seems unlikely. EA did renew the System Shock trademark a couple of years ago, but I seriously doubt they would hand the franchise off to a new developer instead of letting Ken Levine continue his success with the series.

Starbreeze studios is known for FPS thus far; Chronicles of Riddick originally and then The Darkness. A System Shock 3 game would make sense, given the developer's current repertoire.
However, it would feel kinda (read: really) skeezy to hear EA talk about the System Shock license like that. D:

@Panda

System Shock is being...revived...by the team that did Godfather...take that for what it's worth, but Starbreeze would more than get my vote of confidence if they got the nod to do a System Shock successor.

Although if EA acquire Take Two, they would inherently acquire Ken Levine's services since 2k Boston is under that umbrella...

...Damn't...now I REALLY want EA to finish off that acquisition.

I'm sure Road Rash is fine and all, but if you're hoping for Road Rash over Magic Carpet then I hope you get some sort of illness.

Road Rash?Seriously? That would be like Bungie making a skateboarding game. While not completly implausible, more than likley it would never happen.Besides, why in the fuck would they contract Road Rash out to a devoloper that has thus far only proven they can make really short, yet completly awesome FPS's.Especially when they still own Criterion, which would be a much better fit for the series.System Shock would certainly make the most sense especially given the recent bitchslap from 2K games.Btw,Harrassment Panda,Kevin Levine is contracted to 2K,and EA owns the exclusive rights to System Shock. So it's doubtfull they give a fuck about how Mr.Levine feels.

I agree with T9X. I could see EA reviving Road Rash, but given the success of Bioshock and the fact that the developer doing the project is known for FPS games, a System Shock game would make more sense to me.

The one game it will not be ... Road Rash... the full press release mentions that it is "beloved fiction" (Road Rash=fun, but would you describe it thus? Sounds to me something more akin to System Shock, Wing Commander or even Ultima (long shot)
