Did you know that Vagrant Story is coming to the Western PlayStation Network soon? Now you do! Square Enix's classic PlayStation game is regarded as one of the finest RPGs of its generation, and among Square's most accomplished titles. Despite its immense popularity, it never took off as a franchise, but it left a legacy that continues to this day.
Vagrant Story was released on the Japanese PSN quite a while ago.
It was originally believed that the game would arrive as early as next week, but Square Enix has since confirmed otherwise. No official date has been given right now, but hopefully it will arrive soon. Who knows? Maybe it'll even give the PSN version of Final Fantasy VII a run for its money.

100 cocktails to PSN and portable gaming
I lost my PSX copy years ago. I'd love to see an updated sequel for this as well sometime.
I've never played this game, but if it is coming to PSN i am totally picking up this shit. Classic Matsuno! Stoked!!
Why would somebody pretend to play a game? That makes no sense to me. I don't know any gamer posers personally..
I remember looking to buy it at the local flea market back then, but ended up picking up Valkyrie Profile by mistake(not that I regret doing that :D).
I have this on my PSP already, but I haven't given it a decent playing yet. I'm very interested in the setting at the least.
Vagrant Story deserves a sequel.
(Also, offtopic, Bayonetta's getting a special edition for the PAL version. Jim, I need your saliva on that.)
For all of you have not had the privilege and the pleasure to experience this game, pick this up IMMEDIATELY. Vagrant Story being under-played and under-appreciated numbers among the greatest crimes of our millenium.
While Final Fantasy VII has aged worse than Liz Taylor, VS remains a shining paragon of PS1 achievement. The upscaler and texturing look absolutely fantastic on any television (no HD needed), and has been infecting my PSP with 32-bit beauty for years now. The combat system is unique and, in my humble opionion, unrivaled to this very day. The item creation mechanic kept me coming back for more than 10+ files. Of course, the score is also top-notch, but another feature deserves that most acclaim: the absolutely, positively coolest storyline of any game in the last generation.
No whiners, no teenagers. Just pure, unadulterated badassery. After you beat the game, you might want to download a transcript of the dialogue just to bathe in the light of its glory. The gameplay? Flawless. Craft items, slay dragons, cast baneful spells, split hymens, and whup ass.
The world DESERVES to relive the story of Ashley Riot; I am a Grand Master Breaker, and you should be too.
I just bought a PSP last week, and it's becoming one of the most fulfilling purchases I've had lately! Well...next to my 360, of course =P.
Hopefully it costs $10, then I can go pick up a $20 card and DL FF7/Vagrant Story. I'm still struggling to come to terms with the fact that this is a real thing that will happen.
Anyways, everyone should have Vagrant Story in their collection. Run out and get it. And it is one of the few PSX games that does not look like, well, ass. Pants excluded.
But.. when do I get Xenogears? :(
gabapenteado: it's called the Rood Inverse.
My buddy actually has a tattoo of the Rood Inverse, and he only got it because I basically face-raped him with the game til he played and loved the hell out of it.
I used to have custom firmware on my PSP and had this game up and running on it but I eventually "officially" upgraded my PSP firmware (to play Prinny:CIRBTH) so I can't play it anymore.
Back when I owned the PHYSICAL game for PS1, I dropped like 30-40 hours into it and loved it, but got stuck at some point and quit. I look forward to revisiting the game on a larger screen.
It holds up pretty well (though on the PSP screen, it's a bit hard to tell what's going on sometimes), aside from the cutscenes which I kind of wish were just done in CG now or at least I wish they had voice work.
Lots of reading if you want to follow the plot, but it has a VERY rewarding (and original) combat system and it also rewards those who want to spend time upgrading equipment (though it's not essential if you master the in-fight combo system).
It better be good.
It's exciting that one of the best developers of the PSone era is embracing PSN digital distribution. Alright Square Enix, now put Chrono Cross on the PSN and I'll be set. :)
Now just waiting for Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 and i will have my nostalgia circle complete!
