V-Tech shootings retold as a flash game photo

We knew it would happen sooner or later ... and here it is. Newgrounds just published a flash game based on the student shootings at Virginia Tech. This crude third person flash game allows you to play through the events as Cho Seung-Hui, navigating through campus to carry out the massacre methodically. Take a deep sigh and give it a go.

So who made it? Background info on the game designer and quotes from his blog that will make your blood boil after the jump.

The flash designer is Ryan Lambourn, an Australian living in Sydney who goes by the name "PigPen" and runs a site called GooGumProduce.com.  After posting the image above named "Go Cho" he wrote the following on his blog:

"I've been working on a game based on the VTech Massacre! ...yeah, yeah, im a horrible person, i know."

At least he knows what he's getting himself into. It gets worse. This exchange between him and the FlashPortal operator (that refused to post the game) is also notable:

FP: You should be shot for making that game! Go f*ck off and die b*tch!"

PP:  ORLY? THEN ITS TIME FOR A BARBEQUE! I'll bring the meat, negroes bring the koolaid!

So yeah, he's approximately 48 hours away from getting his head kicked in by somebody. Nice MegaMan shirt, though.

Although the game isn't as polished as the others it will be compared to (Namely I'm OK and Super Columbine Massacre RPG), PigPen's game is just short of awful. In its defense, it's short and has structure. If you don't follow the plan accordingly, the cops capture you early. If you walk into a classroom, the game engine makes the walls transparent. When you fire shots near pedestrians, they'll freak out and start screaming and running. It's amateur but not too bad for a Flash platform.

The icing on the cake is definitely the soundtrack -- Collective Soul's 1994 single "Shine" plays on a constant loop in the background. The song's uplifting lyrics juxtaposed to the shooting is just about the creepiest thing in the game. Why that song? Ryan notes:

"It was one of Cho's favorite songs."

When you add this all up, it seems like the V-Tech shooting are secondary to the details put into the game. Although it's never stated, I can't help but feel that this his tribute to Cho. What a waste of talent.

Umm. . . I don't mean to sound like an ass, but whats the difference between playing the viet-cong in BF1942 or the nut job in postal. I mean in the end our hobby usually involves killing alot of people with little to no reason what-so-ever. Why does adding peoples names and such make it more or less valid in terms of horridness. . . In crackdown i get my kicks by kicking people off buildings for christ sakes, (even more fun once you go through the trouble of getting them up there) I know not all games are "kill them 4 da flagzz, I mean im hooked on pokeman right now for fucks sake. Also newgrounds + digg does Not = fame.

shit like that only proves Jack Thompson's case true

its likely to get someone who depreciates this game to go to sydney and slit his throat.

i know i would, and volunteer myself...

before Jack Thompson can get his hands on it...

shit, this only fuel's his run. Can you immagine what he's going to come back with?

i hate it when people ruin games for the rest of us.

Grats to Rpg_Worshiper for being the first person to Godwin this story. I figured it would have happened sooner.

I agree with what Rancor is saying. In Postal 2 you can do pretty much anything if you wanted, you could shoot up a bank, light the corpses on fire, and piss them out. But similar things happen in real life. Don't places in general get shot up sometimes by lunatics? What's the difference if you put labels on it? In Command and Conquer Generals, what makes it different if the GLA was just called Al Qaeda instead? Both of those games are still very fun to play.

Oh noes! I already blew all my money trying to Save Toby!

The guy is crafty bastard, I'll give him that. What would disturb me even more than his money-grubbing ploy would be if anyone was gullible enough to fall for it.

Hmm... I'm kind of surprised and disgusted by the fact that I'm not at all surprised and disgusted by this. My response is more along the lines of "Eh, it's already been done before and better." And when one's game is being compared to Super Columbine Massacre RPG in an unfavorable light, that's pretty damn sad. Granted, I haven't actually played this game, and have no intention whatsoever of doing so, thus my disregard for it might be a trifle unfair, but whatever. This guy is almost as big of an attention whore as Jack Thompson himself, in my book. Well... nobody is as big an attention whore as Jack Thompson, but I guess this dude gets points for trying, at least.

Oh, and speaking of Jack Thompson...

@Rpg_Worshiper

Y halo thar Hampton J. Sock. Yeah, that Hitler game would be awesome sauce! Hey, I know! While we're at it, let's make a game where you play as Pontius Pilate! It'd be kinda like Phoenix Wright, except in ancient Rome! Wouldn't that be super?! *eyeroll*

How do I get in contact with this guy who produced the game? We want him to design a program.

He posted his flash game first on a recently built community gaming site that he frequently posts on called ultragameplayers.com. He posts there under the forum name PigPen.

Even that small and upcoming community didnt know what to say when he shared it.. they respected his rights to post it, and share it.

Gee attro it's too bad all of humanity isn't as hardcore as you.

It's the internet that made me as thick skinned as I am. I realize that there are plenty of people that aren't, so I stand up for them.

Lambourn's a pretty pathetic unisexual. This moron wasn't dropped on his head as a child... he was thrown down. Anyone who isn't offended by this BS needs to get out from in front of their artificial intelligence, read a book, and attempt to grasp some actual intelligence. I'm sure actually getting laid by a human being is probably a stretch for anyone who spends all their time playing video games, and those who think this is somehow funny. And, I'm plenty thick-skinned. I've lived in worse places than some of these weak virtual recreations that fascinate so many. Here's the thing: Even I get amused by some sophomoric pranks, and am fascinated by some of the things people do to each other; but, not so fascinated that I'd like to experience them firsthand. I liken supporters of this to pre-pubescent Dahmers. Stay out of touch with real people long enough, and you fail to be one. Psst--cool kids bend over the cheerleaders.

Guys this is what FREEDOM means, you have to take the good with the bad, obviously this is BAD taste, if you dont like it dont play it, no one can force you NOT to make a unstasteful game just like no one can force you to play it. I didnt.

Lately Americans have been given the illusion that freedom means to protect what you (or your group ideas) like and DESTROY what you dont, guess what? thats exactly the OPPOSITE of freedom thats Totalitarism or fascism.

No one ideas should be forced upon someone elses. Even if you dont like them or totally disagree.

Freedom means we have to deal and put up with idiots, rednecks, emos, furries, nazis, foreigners, budists, homos, nerds, geeks, Soniers, Wii fanboys and even gamers (god I hate those guys!) as long as they dont hurt the freedom and liberties of others.

"shit like that only proves Jack Thompson's case true"

The only thing that could prove that, is if some "straight "A"'s " average kid gets "brainwashed" by playing a "murder simulator" (like Mario bros per example) for 3 minutes and kills everyone in a 10 mile radius. Thats NEVER going to happen.
