Following up his no holds barred rant on the Internet, the man who has somehow managed to do the seemingly impossible (get even less respect than Rodney Dangerfield), gives Kevin Pereira the down and dirty about why he said what he did. The bottom line? His upcoming movie, Postal, will be hitting US theaters on May 23rd. As Boll sees it, nobody's lining up to further his film career, so a little controversial PR is called for.

I still very much enjoy the chain-cursing wild side of Boll, who makes grand statements and boasts -- like Postal besting Indiana Jones at the box office -- but it's nice to see the good natured (and much calmer) side of him in this interview. We don't think anyone is going to say that he's the next Steven Spielberg, but I'll go on record as saying that we need people like Uwe Boll to keep Hollywood straight.

For every cookie-cutter movie and the endless sequels trying to desperately hold on to past glory, along comes Uwe Boll to remind us that we needn't take everything so damn seriously. I signed that Pro-Boll petition, Mr. Dangerfield (signature number 2857). You have my respect.

Uwe Boll does a great service to society he makes movies so other directors know what not to go in filmmaking

I really can't help but like the guy. He's charming in his own way.

To be honest, I've got a hunch that Postal might do far better at the box office and among the critics than his previous films. In fact, I hope it does.

Who cares is he's making terrible movies? If you don't like them, just don't watch them.

I've seen a few Uwe Boll movies *shudders* and I can't wait for him to be somehow prevented from making anymore movies. I have no clue why any actor would even consider working with a man that has made only the worst of movies in the last few years. Heck, BloodRayne lasted only one showing at our local theater and was pulled off the list immediately afterwards. We didn't even get his last movie in our theater.

If he's decided to make it bad for comedy's sake it would probably do wonderfully. Its not going to be Naked Gun or Airplane, but it might be worth a laugh. What I have seen of his previous films (not much, but I think Alone in the Dark was on television once) they weren't billed or presented with a comedy twist ala Evil Dead's "we're making a horror movie, but let's not get too caught up with the scary part". ED had some generally creepy stuff in it (like that freaky deer head) but never lost sight of being fun.

Pulling the goofy fun movie angle would probably work for him.

He seemed like a nice enough guy in his interview as well. If he was always like that I think he'd be doing better than he is. But you don't call someone's mother a whore then tell them to get a sense of humor when they're offended.

I guess that I have this man to thank for it, but I learned a long, long time ago that the public personas that people take on are usually nothing like how these same people handle themselves in real life.

It's all about putting on a show, then sitting back and watching it take on a life of its own.

i don't think he should stop making movies, i just think he should stop making Movies of games, it's that simple.
I believe he could make some great movies if we were given the proper script.
But then again he's not even the one to blame here, it's the bloody games companies and movie studios that are giving him the jobs.

Look, Uwe Boll can give the most awesome and hilarious interviews ever, and can stage the most outrageous PR events (boxing, anyone?) but that won't change the fact that his movies are utter shit. Being outside of the Hollywood system, or whatever, is entirely irrelevant to this.

Also, Boll complains about cookie-cutter sequels and whatever, yet he's making BloodRayne 3, Alone in the Dark 2, etc.? Right.

It’s good to see that he doesn’t take himself seriously here and that it’s just a persona. I mean, if I was putting all that effort into something and everybody hated my work, I’d feel pretty bad, too.

“I loved Bad Boys, but I hated Pearl Harbor.”

Me too, Uwe. Me too.

There are crappy movies that make money, and crappy movies that don't make money. He's just upset that he's not the former.

But after seeing him on AOTS yesterday, I think he's a funny guy (not intentionally), and simply trying to get free publicity for his work. He wouldn't be hated as much if it were non-videogame movies he was mucking up.

What the hell is all this "awesome" guy shit I'm hearing from you all. This man does not deserve any support for himself or his movies. I don't care if he destroyed a few games most gamers don't really give two shits for (HotD is still a bad ass rail-shooter BTW) but he gives Hollywood the excuse to create MORE shitty game movies.
If he wants to make a bad comedy movie, stay the HELL away from games. Why not make a movie similar to Snakes on a Plane then hm? No, he just goes for a game...
The man does not create "art" and sickens me that he calls himself a director.
