To say that Epic's Mark Rein may be proud of Unreal Tournament 3 is something of an understatement. Just watch our exclusive chat with the man to find that out. Lately, he's been bigging up the graphical power of the game, claiming it to be better looking than Gears of War. Ouch, Gears fans. Ouch.
Rein also continued Epic's latest trend of saying really, really nice things about the PlayStation 3.
"It's a really high end experience that pushes the graphics bar up even higher than Gears of War. There's more polygons, there's more stuff going on, there's more explosions and there's more things happening, so we're just really pleased with the way the game runs on the PS3."
Claiming that the PS3 version of UT3 is "something special," Rein praised how "right" it felt to play the game with a controller -- surely blasphemy to the weird and unsavory PC obsessives out there. Rein also went on to say that there were no greater difficulties developing for the PS3 than any other console, despite what some devs have claimed.
Mark Rein hearts the PlayStation 3, I think.

I would expect Rein to say nothing but good things, considering the lawsuits against them for the UE3 engine and the PS3 UE3 engine issues that devs have been so vocal about.
This game plays exactly like the last Unreal Tournament. I have no interest in it and I enjoyed Gears a lot more because it was something new and fresh.

@ShadowXOR: Actually, I though the demo felt more like UT '99 than the more recent ones.
You can still double jump and there are the vehicles, but the actual shooting and fighting felt closer to the original (which is a good thing, in my opinion).
It's being released a whole year later than gears, one should bloody well hope it looks better. As for his comments about the PS3 version, I couldn't really imagine electing to play this game with a PS controller. Even the 360 controller, which feels about as ideal as a console pad can be for FPSes, I just think PC FPS series' are better on the PC.

Yah well fuck using a controller for UT. UT is meant to be played on a mouse and keyboard and as such, I will be playing it on my PC

You can play unreal 3 with a keyboard and mouse on the ps3, you don't even need a pc for that control scheme anymore. unreal is the first game to support that on the ps3.. FYI king.

I;ll wait for the review. The cover system is Gears is the star, not the graphics. Its all in how it plays out. Unreal games have been fairy shitty of recent years, much like the Need for Speed games, every version promises much but fails to really deliver. Hope this is not a lesson in green and purple lighting in space.
Maybe this will make it out before christmas. It'll be good to have a console FPS that acutally has bots to play against.

I've never seen any FPS work better with a controller and I doubt I ever will. Anyone who claims different is lying or overly defensive. Therefore it's good the UT3 offers both on the PS3.
brad and furiousgeorge have the right idea...for someone to claim that a second gen game would look better than a first gen game is expected...theyd be idiots if they released epics flagship game and have it look WORSE than gears. and like wonky said...gears of war was fun because it was a good game PLUS added some eye candy to boot. i expect unreal to be great...although i will be playing it on 360. i also wonder if huxley will bite into Unreals crowd at all, if it ever comes out

in my opinion gears is a better game than UT, plays alot better than UT, and I also think that having a controller is much better than mouse + keyboard... as a matter of fact the last couple of months i've seen alot more people in internet cafes playing with the xbox 360 controller via the wireless adpater for windows (and i live in beijing), it was surprising to see alot of people playing with a controller games like CS and ultimately HL...just a little piece of detail

I will never understand what the fuck you people are talking about when you say that a keyboard and mouse are better. Sure, the accuracy improves, in fact it becomes downright easy enough for a small child to get headshots, but I see no other pluses. It's just clunky and unnatural. Consoles 4 lyfe.
Anyway, yeah, the game looks sweet. Looks like the PS3 may finally have a good, quality FPS, because Killzone sure as hell isn't going to be it.

The reason everyone keeps comparing new games to Gears is because IMO Gears was truly the first next gen title to look well...next gen. Halo 3 pales in comparison to Gears graphics which is why Rein is so keen to compare UT3 to it. I'm a Sonyfag so I really could care less about 360 but to say that UT3 is better than Gears is almost a compliment to 360 users.
Wow, it does look better than Gears. However, it still looks like Gears. I know Unreal has been around before Gears, but the art style looks exactly the same.

I suave more to sony & nintendo but you cant lie about the game, look and feel. The only thing UT3 can offer than GoW cant and will not in this gen of consoles, its the amount of things going on at once. Like heavenly Sword has 100+ enemies roaming all around you at full 60fps with no lag and no loss in quality. This can of whoop ass carnage is what I expect to see in UT3 and not in GoW.

I don't care what anyone says. When it comes to FPS, Unreal is the Holy Grail. Nothing has ever come very close to topping it (although I haven't played COD4 yet...damn you Japan). I can't wait to get my hands on UT3. I'm buying a new PS3 when I go back to America to ignore the family during Christmas. Damn you dysfunctional family!
