When my sister-in-law's father died in the late 1980's, it was a sad thing for most. For me, it meant that I received the NES that kept him company during his extended hospital stay. I have been playing games for a huge portion of the twenty something years since then and my interest and admiration for the medium has done nothing but escalate exponentially. I have a deep love for Nintendo, though I am by no means exclusive. I will eagerly list Final Fantasy VII as my favorite game of all time, but I am not blind to it's faults (and it has lots). I am a fan of RPGs of most kinds, Japanese and Western, especially tactical ones. I am a massive fan of the Metroid series as well as Castlevania (both classic- and Igarashi-style), the old Lucas Arts adventures, Heroes of Might and Magic, Team Fortress (TFC and TF2), Shin Megami Tensei (and it's spinoffs), and many more. I have drunk the Fumito Ueda Kool-Aid and I'm not ashamed of it. I have a deep affection for competitive gaming even though I am complete rubbish at any game that could be played on such a level (although I've had some shining moments in TFC and TF2).
Outside of gaming, I am a lover of the written word and I am pursuing an English degree because I have no choice in the matter. My 5 favorite books are American Gods by Neil Gaiman, House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?by Philip K. Dick, The Road by Cormac McCarthy and Sunshine by Robin McKinley. I am a NINny who thinks that everything Trent Reznor touches is golden, therefore my favorite band is Nine Inch Nails. I also like David Bowie, The Cure, Sonata Artica, Sneaker Pimps/IAMX, Massive Attack, Portishead, Cake, Mindless Self Indulgence, The Megas, Atari Teenage Riot, Amanda Palmer, Powerglove, and too many more.
