Volition was hoping to get the jump on Comic Con, which means new media for Red Faction: Armageddon is here for the looking. Previously, they weren't willing to let us stare at this sequel's enemies for very long. This video, on the other hand, is all about showing the creatures -- and how nicely they explode.

I know some of you are wary over the shift to the Mars underground; I am too. Throwing in aliens seems like an odd move -- at least it wasn't zombies -- but it was a move, at any rate. They probably could have tightened up the graphics and left virtually everything else untouched, and we'd eat it up.

Instead, they're going for something else. In my book, experimenting is the better route, even if it ends in "failure."

Volition knows that Gears of War has already been made, right?

They should have put this game further back in the game series' canon. You can't just toss in a preexistent, natural adversary in a space colonial Sci-Fi setting after an arbitrarily large number of years where there were none. The first step any colonist, or credible writer, would take is to explore their territory to the best of their ability, and that would leave the possibility of something like this either unlikely or downright unbelievable.

I know it's just a video game, which in the end I will still play, crush things with large hammers, and have a shitload of fun, but if you're going to approach a larger story arc without respect to common sense or the genre, then the least you could do is make it look a lot less serious.

I loved Guerilla, but this doesn't look fun at all. It looks lame and generic.

Am I the only one who doesn't want to fight monsters/aliens in this? Humans are so much more satisfying to combat.

If using a Magnet gun to tear the world and enemies to shreds is generic, I'll buy generic. Looks bad ass.

RF Guerilla is one of my favorite games, but I'm in the same camp as everyone else here concerned about this alien business.

They're not actually aliens if they're from Mars and the game is set on Mars. /pendant

I'm just hoping they at least make the multiplayer portion 1st person. They put so much freaking time into Guerrilla's multiplayer, but nobody plays it cause it's 3rd person. And bring back the chick announcer from RF2.

Each Red Faction game is different so I can't knock them for keeping up the trend but this one does seem like a step down from the last game. On the other hand I thought Guerrilla was gonna suck too after changing the series from an FPS but that proved to be an awesome game. I've liked every game so far so hopefully this one's worthy.

While Guerrilla was an awesome sandbox of experimentation, it simply lacked the cohesive structure I expect out of Red Faction. Don't get me wrong, I love Guerrilla, but Armageddon seems to keep the destruction the franchise is known for, but it keeps it more focused in a more tunneled level design. It's a sandbox in how many ways you can accomplish a mission, but the environments are designed for that in mind and not merely vast empty wastes of space. I'll take a focused game over a sandbox any day of the week.

I didn't get to enjoy Guerrilla since I just played the story and beat it because it was a rental. I should probably buy it. As for this, yea I don't know. We went from being in the future to the, uh, futurer... and now monsters are here even tho they've already been there for years now.

Looks an awful lot like Dead Space, right down to the alien design. It's even got a spirally stone spire thing with glowing glyphs on it.

I liked Guerrilla, and I'll wait until this comes out to judge it, but I don't really want Dead Space in my Red Faction.

Please don't disappoint us, Volition.
