Use Micro SD in an Xbox 360 memory card? photo

I'm mostly a solo gamer. I don't really like to play with anyone, so I don't use my Xbox 360 memory cards that much. Plus, even the larger ones feel like they're too small to transport any content anyway. That's not the case with this Max Memory 2GB memory card, though. As you'd guess, it comes with 2GB of internal memory built in, but its another feature that makes it a good hard drive alternative.

The Max Memory 2GB can be extended with a Micro SD card with its built-in slot, and it supports SDHC cards. This means that you can plug in a 16GB Micro SDHC card and have a very small 18GB storage solution for your Xbox 360 in your pocket.

The Micro SD option also lets you pull that card out and stick it in your PC to back-up your data and even trade game saves. Codejunkies' has this available for order now for $39.99, and Newegg has a 16GB card for about $50.

This looks like a very impressive device, but I wonder if this device allows you access to all the features that make these memory cards such useful devices. Can I put my games on it and play them? Can I access my profile from this device on a friend's Xbox 360?

My question is, is this memory unit identically functional to the Microsoft MUs? If it is, it's an absolute must buy. I think this device warrants a review from Destructoid staff, though I'm quite tempted to get the device already to satisfy my curiosity.

Oh wow, I'm in. Considering the SMALLEST official Memory Unit (64MB) goes for $39.99 (last I checked, anyway), this is an amazing deal. I could use my 2GB microSD card that's already more than half full and still have more room than Microsoft's largest Memory Unit.

And the ability to back my saves up on my computer is just icing on the cake. :D

This is awesome. I only have an MU because Game decided to give me a 512mb one to say sorry for my 3rd replacement 360 in 2 weeks breaking, but it's so useful. I'll be buying this if it comes to the UK.

My big question would be, can I put media on it and play it back via the dashboard?

I don't know much about the XBOX360's capabilities, but this is the equivalent to an R4 on it? Obviously only for XBLA games.

Good thinking! I just picked up something like this for my Gamecube.

Shut up.
@Monodi
Not quite. You'd probably need a something-or-other that would let your system read you-know-whats directly from the card.

If I didn't think Datel was such a pile of crap company, I'd be all over this. But they're the new Mad Catz for me --- Nothing I've ever used that had their name on it has ever worked.

That little thing can house 16gb while the 360 memory card only has 2gb? That's not right...

Aren't game saves tied to the gamertags?

this seems cool, except the trade games saves part. That would prompt a nice little update from Microsoft if they get wind of abuse.

I use a 512 mb memory card to transfer my saved and profile between 360s in my house. I'd love to have more storage. Only problem is, I'd be worried about trusting my precious save games to a third part card and microSD.

@Chronic Logic: The 360 memory card comes in a max of 512MB. This third party one has 2GB out of the box and can be expanded by Micro SDHC cards.
