US software sales: Halo 3, The Orange Box still tops, Guitar Hero III climbing photo

Next-Gen has charted the top 10 sellers in software for several categories, according to Amazon's sales data.  Halo 3 and The Orange Box are naturals for top spots, but another that hasn't even been released is racking up high rankings as well.

Overall, the best selling title across all platforms is The Orange Box (PC), which finally knocks Halo 3 out of the top spot. As far as the Xbox 360 is concerned, both are still at the top, but places are switched, with Halo 3 coming first. Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare preorders are knocking at the back door, coming in at third place for the console.

We shouldn't be surprised at the pre-holidy preorder action, but Activision's Guitar Hero III is already taking many of the top spots, including the top two spots for PS2 (bundle and stand-alone game). It also manages to rank on every console's list that it is being released for: 8th for PS3, 4th for Wii, and 10th for Xbox 360. It looks like Activision is going to have great holiday sales numbers.

Many other highly anticipated games' preorders are also high ranking, with titles like Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin’s Creed, and Mass Effect sitting in top ten spots.

See all of the lists after the jump.

Carnival Games being #2 on the Wii list proves that there are no good games coming out for Wii any time soon besides the obvious... Mario Galaxy.

Good for the Orange Box, that game deserves these types of sales. I think I am gonna go pre-order CoD4 this weekend.

I thought Valve didn't release sales figures for Steam stuff, which I would guess is where the majority of Orange box PC sales were.

If thats just PC retail numbers, thats very impressive

lol, 5 out of the 10 games on the Wii list aren't out yet which leads me to believe that many Wiis are sitting and gathering dust. Like mine.

Waitaminnit...

Orange Box was really a great deal so it isn't surprising to see it on top on most of the charts.

It must just be for Brawl's pre-order list then. It's truly sad that so many U.S. gamers didn't pick up Metroid PRime 3.Hopefully, Capcom's Zack & Wiki will not meet the same fate.

That Wii list is hilarious, so much crap on it.

No suprise seeing the overrated box on top, even though Portal is the only thing good on it, its still a good deal.

Nice to see BioShock still selling.
