US software sales: Call of Duty 4 and Super Mario Galaxy top charts, PSP shines photo

This week, Nintendo's Super Mario Galaxy dominates, Call of Duty 4 makes a big splash, and people seem to be getting their Rock Band preorders squared away.

Call of Duty 4 is overall the best selling title this week, singlehandedly taking the No. 1 spot on the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Its only real competition this week is Super Mario Galaxy, which managed to take No.1 overall despite the fact that it isn't even available yet.

Even though Guitar Hero III rocked the charts last week, it has fallen out of the top ten, and it seems that Rock Band has moved in to take its place. Aside from being No. 3 overall, Rock Band Special Edition has also taken the No. 2 spot on the top ten list for both PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as No. 3 on the PS2.

Lastly, the PSP top ten list mirrors a recent Destructoid inter-office discussion about the system. The portable seems to have several good releases in its lineup lately, and this week in particular puts titles like Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, Silent Hill: Origins, and Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness at the top. This is great news for PSP owners -- let's hope that the trend continues.

Hit the jump for all of the lists.

Good to see people acknowledging CoD4's release. I'm glad to see teh Haloez haven't had an impact on sales (is it me or did the fire for that game die almost IMMEDIATELY after its release?).

I sold my PSP a long time ago and am glad to see that the system STILL has barely any original IPs coming out for it. It makes me feel my sale of the system to fund my 360 was justified.

Anybody know how closely the Amazon charts follow total sales numbers?

I refuse to believe that Carnival Games continues to sell. It must be on this list only because it's not on retail shelves anymore. Right???

Hm...perhaps I should get a pre-order in for Rock Band, considering that Harmonix doesn’t think there’ll be enough to go around...

So what Sony, and developers, realized is that games sell the Playstation brand, not the Playstation brand sells games. Let's hope developers take that lesson to the Wii and PS3.

I need to preorder Galaxy soon, because I love free coins!

Remember that you get the coin when you pick up the game, not when you preorder!

Also, Cocks!

Dude, look at all the shitty Wii games in the top 10 overall. High School Musical, Carnival Games? WTF? I guess the casual crowd and the kiddie crowd are using their Wii, unlike me. Can't wait for Galaxy.

Why is liberty city stories still selling on the psp? Vice city stories is so much better. Must've been a bug price drop on the game.

I'm playin teh COD4 right now.

It makes me nauseous after 30-40mins of play. :(

It's happened twice already today, I played for about 30-40 min and felt sick so I stopped playing. I felt fine after not playing the game after about 15min so I played the game and 30-40mins later I felt sick again.

Sad panda.

Other than that I'm loving the game.

I'm happy to see all the love PSP has been getting lately.

That portable has been on a roll lately! And for the record, gets WAY more play time than my DS!

The DS is totally collecting dust until DQ9 comes out, look at all the crap that's topping the sales charts. Zeldca got beat by Brain Age 2! Boring!.

Viva my new PSP love and Disgaea, and the tons of RPGs that are available for it!!
