The US box art for upcoming PS3 art game Heavy Rain has been revealed, and it continues that fabled North American tradition of having really crap packaging. Rather than the less-is-more approach of the European box, Heavy Rain's US counterpart has a bunch of characters plastered all over it. Looks tacky if you ask me.
Just as an FYI for American publishers, you don't have to fill your packages with a ton of visual information out of fear that people will be bored. Sometimes there's more to be gained from having a classy bit of box art, rather than a patchwork mess of randomly collected characters. Must we really have a repeat of the ICO fiasco for every Sony game?
In any case, Heavy Rain will release for the PS3 on February 23. Hopefully the game is better than the box.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Better version IMO.
And loaded with visual information? Dude that box art is pretty aesthetically pleasing.
And random characters?Unless I'm mistaken aren't those the main characters?
All that said the original placeholder art with just the origami in the rain was better but this is nowhere near "crap packaging."
I think they just wanted wet bewbs on their video game box.
Ugh, for what is supposed to be a mature mystery/thriller title, the addition of the character models on the cover only makes it seem a lot less gritty, thrilling, adult-oriented, or whathaveyou. Not a fan.

@Xzyliac
i dont agree it looks crappy compared to the placeholder, a good boxart is usually simplistic enough to be elegant but informative enough get the point across
I'm really getting sick of it as well.
Eh. The text font is poorly chosen. But I do like the more minimalism of it.
To each his own. I think if it were in color it would be awful but the monotone helps retain that elegance.
I don't see the big deal about it having characters on the cover. Big woop.
"Previously, on Lost..."
Geez, people'll cry about anything these days, won't they?
No time to write more about must watch CIRQUE DU SOLEIL
This Heavy Rain art is decent compared to other NA releases, it could be much worse.
This is true, and by putting so much visual info on this particular box, I'm going to have to call "false advertising" here.
Blame the American consumer!
about finding a toilet...
except the guy on the right,
he couldn't wait any longer.
I really hope not. I absolutely love the box art/inner box art in ps3 games. Infamous, Uncharted, and especially LittleBigPlanet have really cool inner box art and I'd hate to see that go in favor of the ugly ass eco-boxes.
