Quantcast

Early today, we brought you word of GameStop's online listing for Mad Catz's upcoming cymbal expansion for the new Rock Band 2 wireless drum kit. At the time all we had was a tiny picture and a price point ($29.99) for a two-pack cymbals.

Now we have higher resolution images, direct from Mad Catz, and a bit more information on the product. Cymbals will be available in three packages -- in addition to the double pack (listed at GameStop), you'll be able to pick up a single cymbal for $19.99 and a triple pack for $39.99. All packs come with the necessary mounts and cables, and it seems the more cymbals you dedicate to up front, the better deal you'll be getting.

The cymbals will be available at most big retailers, including GameStop, who is currently listing the peripherals for a September 22 release. We hope to have some hands-on impressions and details of the cymbals, along with other Rock Band peripherals in the Mad Catz line soon.

But...what are they for? Will RB2 somehow have 8 total notes to hit now?

Please don't fail at this like you usually do, Mad Catz. I really want these to work well.

I wonder if they meant to swap the blue and green cymbals like that...

Those actually look really nice. I'll never buy them, but very nice.

I'm just stupid enough to pay the extra $40 for these...

@ Butmac: Strangely, the blue and green cymbals are where you'd think they would be in the second pic. I assume you're supposed to be able to position them however you want, and just plug the cables into the corresponding sockets.

@ Magesx: They basically duplicate the regular color notes in normal gameplay, but during fills and in the training mode they work as actual cymbals. At least that's my understanding from what I've read.

@Magesx:

They'll substitute for the colors they are for i.e. if there's a hi-hat note in the game, you could just hit that instead of the pad. It's to add a bit more difficulty as well as have things resemble more of a realistic drum kit.

I got a hands on review for ya for the Mad Catz Bass guitar.....it is awesome EXCEPT the one I bought which doesn't register notes when you play Rock Band 2. Therefore making playing Bass an epic fail.......what's that you say you need the green and red and blue buttons?? Well I would say buy it from another vendor....but well you cant. The End. Oh P.S. It is awesome to look at and hold but at this point it is a bit like having a internet relationship with an supermodel whom you have never met.....it is frustrating and could turn out to be bad:(

P.P.S not the best analogy but you get the point ...spending 69.99 on something that just doesn't work makes me a sad panda who can not rock.

@ MF DOOM: Nope, the original drum set doesn't have ports for the cymbals.

Ah, that's much better. I was wondering why you could only get two cymbals. Still, something doesn't add up. $30 for two = $15 each, so why $20 for one, and $40 for three? Buying in bulk? Or just wanting to make more money on a single cymbal?

Slee: There is a switch on the back of the Fender Precision Bass controller that literally says "RB1 / RB2". I have yet to find documentation talking about it, but that sounds like it might fix your problem.

@Weenus..........I understand that and I already tried that just to check ...it still brings the suck.

First, these aren't new at all, they showed these images back in mid-July.

Also they are renders.

@Stahlbrand

If you took time to actually look at the pictures, you'll notice that these cymbals are different than the ones shown back in July.

@Butmac

Technically you can put you cymbals anywhere on a drum kit.

But as you question, the "standard" setup on a drum set would be hi-hat, crash1, crash2 then the ride cymbal.

But I can play on my friend drum kit who has hi-hat, crash1, ride, crash2. The ride is very low and set up between his only hi-tom and the floor tom.

It is all a mather of preference really.

wheres the hi-hat pedal?

this aint no real drumming kit

They were thinking about putting in the hi-hat but then they realised they would have to replace twice as many pedals as they do now due to suckage.

This would be pretty fun but they're not even part of the game, unless you know the song well enough to know when the cymbals are coming up, weak.

I don't see the point to this though.
