Update on

This has not been a very pleasant week for Fallout 3 fans, to say the least. Yesterday, we told you about the install errors for the PC version of "Broken Steel," which we have since learned is somehow related to the Games for Windows LIVE DRM.

The DLC was pulled from the GFWL Marketplace, but if you were able to download the corrupt "Broken Steel" file before its removal, you might be able to successfully download a working version. Instructions for how to do so can be found here. For everyone else, it appears that Bethesda is in the process of uploading a new, functional version.

On the Xbox 360 side of things, the "Broken Steel" content appears to be fully playable, but features one slight problem with Achievements. While players have been able to unlock them, they aren't being fully credited on Xbox LIVE with the points due to a synchronization issue.

The good news? No one will lose any Achievements, and Microsoft is attempting to remedy the situation.

I think 'Broken Steel' is a very fitting name for this DLC.

I honestly can't find this not funny. there really is nothing Bethesda can release without major issues. sorry to all of those stuck with a foot in this pile of shit, though.

Come on, people. This isn't Bethesda's fault. The PC problem was completely on GFW's side. The 360 version is fine!

I installed GFWL specifically for this content yesterday only to see it not be there. But it's all good, because by linking my game to my live account, I have a whole set of achievements I didn't even know I could be getting. So I've been quite content just creating a new character and earning achievements until they fix the new DLC.

(and zombutler is right, it was GFWL DRM bug)

My history with Bethesda downloads in Fallout 3 for 360:

Operation: Anchorage went fine, except froze once in gameplay.

The Pitt had been downloaded immediately upon release, which was a corrupted file and had floaty bugs. Fine.
Upon downloading The Pitt a second time, my loot from Operation Anchorage (Chinese Stealth armor, Gauss Rifle, Winterized Armor) was gone. Trying to load a pre-finish Anchorage save caused my game to send me back to Vault 101 without ANY loot (clothing, weapons, food, etc.)
Downloaded a third time that week, and things went well.

Broken Steel plays fine itself, but after having finished two of the enclosed missions worth 60 Gamerscore in total, I was given no points at all.

I love Fallout 3; it's my favorite game on the 360, but dammit if Bethesda can't release a solid working DLC packet at any given time. I KNEW I should have waited longer to DL this third one...

Pretty much I'm just going to run around and grind my guys so I get close to 30 before doing broken steel's actual quests. That should take long enough for them to fix it...right?

WOW really? I hope they put out a GOTY version in the coming months or at least by the end of the year.

Well, shit. I was really hoping to play out ten more levels on my PC. Today's Penny-Arcade expresses my feelings rather well.

So the achievements that I unlocked and didn't show up on my Gamerscore, will eventually be unlocked and added back?

Oh well at least it works.

You guys didn't see this coming?

I love them, but Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion=glitch fests 9000. I have no idea "whose fault this is", but let me tell you: I've been dealing with Bethesda's lack of testing for years.

I'm with Zombutler, the PC issue was completely on the side of Games For Windows, and the achievements problem was an XBL synch issue.

Neither problem was down to Bethesda, in fact I'm amazed people aren't blamming Microsoft.

Seeing as the Fallout 3 DLC is Microsoft's poster child for PC DLC... you think they would work harder to not screw this up.

And, yes, it is Microsoft's fault all around.
