Update! New photos of cutesy Wii Sims photo
Admittedly, at least half us repelled in disgust at the sight of the new Sims on the Wii. And yet, look at this new image of a skully-wearing duck-mouthed bastard before you. I totally want to be that guy. Take a gander at a brand new set of images released for your preview pleasure, or hit the jump for the video trailer and original story. So cute! Head ... exploding!

Update 1: We have a trailer! Thanks Pedro!  Ok, so maybe it's a little cute. ;)

When we posted the first glimpse of the Wii Sims last week, skeptics threw their hands up (or just threw up) in disbelief that EA had cutesyfied them with Mii-like characters. Once again, I'm both happy and disgusted to confirm that this it was definitely not a mistaken set of Animal Crossing photos -- this is really happening.

On one hand, I applaud Wright for trying to do something innovative and unexpected with his franchise. On the other hand, I want to knock some sense into the development team. My honest impression is that this game is intended for general consumption and not for the chilluns, it looks like it's going to suck. The early screenshots don't quite embody that signature Nintendo cute factor (Cellda, Pilotwings, Animal Crossing, etc) ... these just looks like kiddy graphics. The environments seem a little crowded as well, so we can only hope they clean it up and do something ungodly creative with the Wiimote. There's a market for this fluff, but I think this game is going to alienate a lot of long time Sims players.

What's your gag reflex?

It's a cool idea, but this type of style would've been much more suited for an Animal Crossing type game. Just call it "Mii Crossing" or something. This looks like it'll fail. Could be wrong though.

This isnt Will Wrights baby, just EA taking his idea and running with it like with previous Sim games. Im kinda dissapointed it doesnt use Mii's like it previousy looked like.

Yeah, what's the point of kiddy lookin' stuff if it's not gonna be linked to your Miis? Or is it, and we just might get an update on the options we can put on our Miis later? I didn't think chillens were into the Sims games anyway...

Idk if I would've picked it up anyway, but I have to say if I was going to, I won't now. The cutesy graphics only work for AC I believe.

It's only a problem if they simplify things and restrict design freedom. Right now, that house construction tool looks like a bad omen.

Honestly? This is the first Sims game I'd actually buy. Too cute.

But can you still make them lesbians?

Ok, I'm sold. This may not be a Will Wright game, but if it's inspired by his work, I'll probably still like it. Besides, I've always been fond of cutesy virtual life games, and the Wii might be the first console that they'll work well on.

The art direction seems cohesive, and it will have zero effect on gameplay. I think Deus Ex Machina has the more pertinent question.

This looks closer to Animal Crossing than to The Sims in my opinion.

It is ridiculously cute, however. I think I have to go to the dentist. I'm quite sure I have cavities now.

I'm interested, but only if they incorporate enough The Sims elements to make it worthwhile.

I don't care if they make it kiddy but when they blatantly try to mooch off Animal Crossing by including tree chopping, it really bothers me. The Sims and Animal Crossing are different games, they are both successful in there current markets, there is no reason to make them more like each other, it just weakens both games.

Well, if there was one thing that bothered me about Animal Crossing, it was that he furniture didn't serve much of a purpose. In the Sims, all furniture did. I hope that is retained in this game.

One small Backward step for EA.
A Huge step backward for The Sims.

Oh my god, what the hell is that sickeningly cute creature standing in front of a mirror in that screenie?! I've never been too fond of the Sims games, but god damn, wouldn't linking them with the Miis just have been a smarter idea instead of throwing in random cuteness? >__<

I would have rather they used Mii's instead of making their characters all cutesy.. Not using Mii's and still making the game look bad, was a horrible idea..

Go back to the way it was, please. Or.. use Mii's.

How could they possibly ever make the Sims even more gay?

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if this version of the Sims never makes it out of Asia. The super-deformed art style is probably meant to make the title appeal more to Japanese gamers. EA will probably release a Wii Sims with visuals much closer to The Sims 2 on PC for North American/Europe. I could be wrong of course.

No really, to parrot what others have said, what the hell is the point if it's not going to be linked to the Miis?
