During peak periods, 4,000 people per minute signed up to participate in the Guild Wars 2 closed beta. No wonder the website went down so quickly. To be fair, the game increasingly sounds like something many of us desperately need to get our hands on.
While hearing that one million of you showed your interest in "just over" 48 hours is nice, the news we've all come for is this: the closed beta is happening in late March. The World vs. World component will be playable alongside, presumably, the rest of the content Jonathan covered in his recent preview.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied:
"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also worth noting, Jordan: This will only be the first of several closed beta events. They will likely all take place during the course of a weekend (just like the Press CBT). Last week's sign-up was to get a chance at entering any of the upcoming betas, starting with the one at the end of March. The Beta FAQ and several tweets from the developers explain that even if you don't get into the first event, doesn't mean you won't be eligible to participate in the subsequent ones.
Also more info on the beta, they said the beta well start out with a certain amount then will grow with each event.
They didn't say how many beta events but I'm guessing around 4 maybe more?
Anyway good much to everyone who signed up! Add new to guild wars 1 if you play.

Been in a few recent early beta tests and they were all so disapoint, safer to wait it out. Still want this game tho :)
What people seem to forget these days, is that when you sign up for a beta, you agreeing to test an incomplete game, and help improve it.
Beta's seem to be treated more like demo's these days, which is wrong.
ArenaNet is doing something that's rare these days - they're doing a beta period properly, as it should be. Rather than providing a "beta" a month before an already-announced release date, which ends up being nothing more than a demo, they're opening up the game in a closed format in limited quantities to actually test features and collect feedback. The results of the beta will determine when the release is.
The wait is painful but it will be so worth it and it's one of a million reasons why I love ArenaNet.
