Unreal Tournament III for the Xbox 360 isn't ready yet, but doing well photo

We're still trying to get over the shock of the PS3 actually getting the game first, but it would seem that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III is chugging along nicely for that rumored May release date. Mark Rein recently stopped by the Epic forums to assure Xbox 360 owners that however painful it may be, the wait will be well worth it. He was shy on details, but pointed to Midway's Gamers Day Event as the place where more information about the game would be revealed. 

Long wait aside, the only sticking point we can think of this time is the past revelation that 360 gamers won't be able to enjoy part of what makes the game so fulfilling in the first place: mods. Thanks to spots like ut3mod.com, PS3 owners have been showered with maps and skins for the game since it was released last December. Epic is hoping that Xbox 360 owners will let this one slide, since the game already has more than enough fast-twitch gameplay to satisfy any cravings on its own, but how this will ultimately affect sales after it is released is yet to be determined.

Of course, nothing's stopping Microsoft from stepping in and turning that near-impossibility (of having mods available for the system) into reality -- and gaining favor with the fans. Plan on taking the plunge when it's released, Xbox 360 owners?

I have one friend of mine that I play UT with on a regular basis. It's been a thing we've done for nearly a decade. He has a 360, as do I. What he doesn't have is a PS3, so I'm waiting it out till the 360 version comes along, or the Mac version, whichever's first (likely the 360 version at this rate...) We don't play mods or maps. We snipe.

And we only need 3-4 maps for that anyway. Give us some of those large scale battle maps and we're fine.

Can't wait. Tried the PS3 version, but it's missing my sniping buddy.

Anyway, even though I think the PS3 will always be superior, I think the 360 version should have split-screen multiplayer. Don't get me wrong, I love UT3 online, but I still think the ability to play with more than one person on one TV should be an option. This should also be a downloadable update for the PS3 version, but I guess we'll see.

I have always been an avid 360 gamer, but this game has made me seriously consider getting a PS3 or upgrading my PC. I have always been a massive UT fan, and its only a matter of time before I play some sort of version of this game ;)

@Cube, although out of the box it is slower on the ps3, that's where these mods we've been talking about comes into play. I use a pcspeedx mod, and some people use pcspeedxPlus mods.

i am not about to buy a ps3 for one fucking game. yes i might get one eventually, but i seriously doubt it. as for PC's i hate them. honestly, i really can't seem to adjust to anything other than the controller. its simply better. as for this game on the 360. meh, i played it, dont really care for it. i thing i'll just wait for Gears of war 2 ;). i mean jeezus, all my friends have 360's and maybe 2 people i personally know have ps3's. no one cares about ps3's were i live. we just wat to have fun. but hey. i may buy it for the 360 just because. i never really use mods anyways. the only game worth ever buying a ps3 for in my opinion is metal gear solid 4. meanwhile i'll play my GTA4 :D and my final fantasy crisis core along with a bit of patapon.

I don't play PC games so my experience with epic games is limited to Gears and that game sucked, regardless of their track record for me, I've seen the PS3 mods, not adding them the 360 version because MS are a bunch of greedy cocksucking pricks really sucks.

Well I dont have a PS3 just yet but I will get this on the PS3 once I get it at the end of the year. I am a 360 owner and I gotta admit that without that feature being available on the 360 version it will make me not wish to purchase it on the 360. Thats once less 360 game sale for you Microsoft.

I don't know what yall saying about slow. I have bellsouth and only 1 night I had a slow connection. Other from that, the game plays super friggin fluid, no lag, no slow down, super fast fights.

Only thing im missing, is to meet Dtoid gaming time :( I know I can take out Sadistic...

Damn now I don't know what to do anymore, this game was on my list as the first game to get when I get my PS3, but if it gets a 360-release even though its neutered, I'll have a lot more people to play against...

then again on PS3 it supports Keyboard & mouse and more importantly unlimited mods...

@ Crunshii: Sure, you can kill Sadistic. I've fragged him many times, but in the end, he has the most kills. Tonight we had a 20 minute deathmatch, most kills wins. He had like 200 kills and 60 deaths, whereas I came in second place with about 105 kills and 70 deaths.

He's crazy. Be sure to join up next Weekend! The PS3 mafia could always use more people.

*laughing* I'm sorry but Cube was right. Everyone here is talking about PS3 vs 360 when it comes to UT3 and being the superior version. Give me a break. It's a PC born game. It is the better version anyway you look at it. If you are serious about UT3, you'd get it on the PC. And to every one screaming "fan boy" to Cube about UT3...news flash. YOU'RE the fanboy!

with xna, i can make a game and play it on my 360... so you guys don't think epic games and ms are trying to get mods working? i would think that is what is taking so long

also, even if UTiii comes out for the 360 with no mods and no keyboard/mouse control, it will still outsell the PS3's version.

You know the screwed up part about UT3 I didn't think the graphics were all that great. In fact not even remotely able to take the cake from whats out there such as Drake's Fotune and others. So if there taking this long to put it on the Xbox they are probably downsizing big time.

WTF are you smoking? The PS3 version runs great. The GAME speed was slightly slowed down from the PC version, i.e. running speed, jumping, projectile movement, etc., NOT the performance of the game. And even then, as an owner of UT2k4 on PC, I can say that the PS3 version is NOT slow paced by any means. Have you even played it, or are you just basing your opinions off of stuff you read on GameFAQS message boards?

I play on the ps3 and honestly the mods are what make the game. I rarely play the maps and content that came with the game. The user maps and characters are so much better.

No mods on the 360 = I would never buy it.

No mods on the 360 is a huge disadvantage. You can have all the achievements and "community" you want, the game is significantly less appealing without mods.

Wait a minute? I am a PC fan boy? Due I am console and classic video game collector I look at everything and pick the best things out.

I got a ps3, wii, and Xbox 360I can say something good about all of them or point out all the consoles and pc faults if they got them.

I Rented the ps3 UT3 to give it a chance I do this often, the PC version is obviously the supior product if you compare the games.

And the xbox 360 will have no mods and no mouse and keyboard support so far.. I can not say how good it is going to look but I am not expecting much with consoles ram and t080p (720p upscaled) limits.

the ps3 version will only have mods that support the 512mb ram limits of the ps3 but at least it's got mods so I give major points for that the ps3 PC like features are the best thing about the PS3.

Now I will get bad on the PC a little.


Well here go resident evil 4 sucks on PC and is much better on wii.

The SNES version of sim city and sim ant is much better than the PC there you go.

And ya the pc is a lot slower than PC what speed level did you play Ut2004 on 50%?

im not smoking anything and If i was smoking somthing thing then forget those newly annouced "gamer supplements" and old fahsion energy drinks. I am marketing what I am smoking as super human gamer pot that makes time slow down.

Look for them in your store in 2009 as soon as a figure out what this magic stuff is I have been exposed too!

The ps3 version is like playing ut2004 on 70% speed and UT3 on PC is a faster game overall than UT2004. and most servers for ut2004 play on 150% speed or more. My favroites are all the way up to max.


Ut3 is supposed to be faster than Ut2004 at normal speed and it is that why you got a hoverboard and all the junk.
