Unreal Engine 3 to power Red Mile's Sin City game photo

What better engine than Unreal Engine 3 to power the upcoming Sin City game? Hell, what better engine than Unreal Engine 3 to power every next-generation game coming to the market, right?

The game's publisher, Red Mile Entertainment, announced today that it has chosen Epic's engine for the Union Entertainment produced title. Flint Dille (with help from Frank Miller, creator of the Sin City graphic novels) will oversee the game's design, scriptwriting, and story generation. Dille has previous gaming experience, having worked on games like Dead to Rights, The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, and Soviet Strike. Even more impressive, he was also lent his talents to the 1980s G.I. Joe cartoons, and a Garbage Pail Kids cartoon that I've never heard of (which upsets me).

It's hard to be excited for a Sin City game; the cynic in me is convinced that there's no way this could turn out good, regardless of the fact that Dille claims he and Frank Miller "have been having a party coming up with nasty stuff for the game." Like with the film, I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Details and a solid release are still pending, so let's withhold judgment, shall we?

With this kind of engine, it has great potential. Now I'm just worried how it's actually going to turn out.

Wow the mighty Epic scores again. Do you think it might be a turn based RPG? Or maybe card game.... I wonder my money is on some type of shooter, but my gut is sayng cart racer.

Sweet! I am also cautiously optimistic. Hoping for the best.

Engine means nothing. It just means they're not going to take the time to do that work themselves.

A Sin City game deserves a unique graphics engine. I'd rather not see my favorite characters looking all shiny and plastic-like. Killer7 graphics are closer to the graphical style this game needs.

What nilcam said... I'm hoping for some cell shaded visual craziness to match Miller's graphic novels.

Actually, the unreal engine does mean something. Unreal is very easy and fast to work in compared to most game engines. I know personally I can make a full level in UnrealEd in a fraction of the time it would take me to construct it in the Source SDK or a 3d modeling program. Coupled that with a reasonably powerful, lightweight engine that's already works on 360, PS3, and PC, and it's really pretty obvious why a developer would use it. ;)
