Very jealous of you guys getting a kart racer with track editing. Afaik there's really nothing like this on PC, even though we get lots of modding etc.Trackmania has a track editor, but it's not a combat racer and has no local multiplayer.
ModNation was pretty much the child of mario kart and LBP.... but not as good as it should have been.
For one racing on custom tracks did not net you any exp so there was no incentive in playing on them. Second was the items were all horrendously overpowered that every tier 3 weapon was blue-shell level bullshit. You could use your boost meter to shield yourself from this but then game just becomes a matter of always keeping your boost and never actually using it unless it is a boost based item.
And thirdly while agreeing with @EdgeL
The game puts far too much emphasis on snaking and e-braking to the point that these are not skilled maneuvers but "push button to slide sideways" tricks and made the game feel not like racing but more like riding hockey pucks.
If they just made Mariokart with custom tracks then they will have my money day one. I am willing to give the devs another chance on this because it is just too fantastic a concept to let die.
plus there are people who already know how bad LBP games actually are so i don't think slapping this name will sell more copies of this game.
without some serious changes in balance, physics, gameplay, UI etc. over original Modnation i doubt it could succeed - let alone compete with upcoming Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing 2.
Metacritic game scores:
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing -- 77
Modnation Racers -- 82
LittleBigPlanet -- 95
LittleBigPlanet 2 -- 91
Yeah, wow. Sony's probably REALLY concerned about competing with Sonic Racing 2 and it's absolutely RABID fanbase.
