With Red Faction: Armageddon out next Tuesday, I was starting to worry about our collective initiative to download the game's demo one million times. The prize is more than worth it.

THQ says Mr. Toots will be unlocked upon completion of the single-player campaign, which shouldn't be too tough. That's a hell of a lot easier than earning the ostrich weapon in Red Faction: Guerrilla's multiplayer, anyway. Did anyone earn it?

Look for Nick's review of Armageddon soon.

I'm conflicted. On one hand, UNICORN. On the other, playing Red Faction.

I was really disappointed with the demo for Armageddon. I loved Guerrilla, but this one had no personality.

Mr Toots looks adorable, though.

I appreciate the effort they've been giving with the weird animals (Ostrich, Unicron), but...meh. Like mrandy said, the past few Red Factions just don't have any personality. It's time for a reboot or a re-imagining. Remake Red Faction 1, and make it original.

It was very Total Recall'y, which is fantastic. But no Arnie? BASTARDS!

Armageddon looks pretty decent(imo) but it unfortunately comes out on the same day as Infamous 2. I'll be skipping on RFA for a while.

@mrandydixon: I totally agree. Guerilla was my favorite that year, but this one seems pretty 'meh'.

I really liked the demo which is weird because I normally don't like demos.

I want it but DNF is this month so I'll leave it until after reviews, a few months later. I beat Guerrilla only the other day. How long does it take to earn that ostrich? Multiplayer is fun although not too active.

I wasn't that impressed with Armageddon, but that magnet gun was damn good fun. Now that we have a unicorn as well, I guess I'll be buying this.

I was excited about Red Faction Guerilla sequel. Then I read they were removing the things that made the original great and started to worry. But I loved Guerilla so much I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Then I played the demo and it cooled my interest. It still may be a great game but it's lacking many of the things that made guerilla great. On top of the the mechs are clumsily implemented. They were fun in RFG because you had all this open space to reek havoc. In Armegeddon everything felt to closterphobic to comfortably move around in a mech with.
The weapons are cool and fighting aliens adds some variety. But that said these changes could've been applied to an open
world - or at least a slightly more open world. I think i read Volition wanted a better narative. Lately (not just RF) games tend to get bogged down with telling interesting or compeling stories and it's starting to be at the expense of fun. It's a game! How does that make sense.
A fun game with a crappy narrative is still fun - at least for me. Sorry about the rant. Just makes me sad that they turned RF into something I'm having a hard time getting excited about. Sony get me wrong, I will be happy if the game ends up getting 9-10s across the board. I'd rather be wrong than see this franchise die.

Am I the only one that does like open world? I loved Guerrilla but I got sick of the open world after a while. Considering we're in the same generation with the same engine do we really need another open world red faction game? I thought the demo was hilariously fun.

@Paro

Same here, I thought everything was too spaced out in Guerilla. In an enclosed space theres more chaos. Some people forget that there is open outdoor spaces in the game.

Bringing structures back is a godsend too.

Guerilla was great. I wish you could reset a building so you could destroy it again BUT at least it had that open world that you can do that in.

Armageddon pretty much removes all of that fun.

I'd love a demo. Volition is not interested in giving me one though.
