I love how Hollywood looks down upon the game industry, yet still won't stop making game movies that are ten times worse than the source material. You have to love that lack of self-awareness. Anyway, the movie industry's latest poor victim is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which has been confirmed for the world of motion pictures.
Columbia Pictures is working on the film as we speak, which makes sense given the studio's Sony affiliation. Kyle Ward has been named as the writer, a man with previous game-to-film experience, having written the Kane & Lynch movie adaptation, as well as working on Hitman 2 for Fox.
Next to Metal Gear Solid, I have to say that a game based on Uncharted is one of the least necessary movie adaptations you can do, on account of the fact that the game was, itself, practically a movie. It was written, paced and acted like a classic adventure film, and as far as I'm concerned, any publisher that allows a movie to be made of it is admitting that the game is not strong enough to stand on its own two legs.
Which, of course, is nonsense, because Uncharted's story certainly did stand on its own. Hollywood needs to stick to making its own horrible movies, not take superior products and then make them rubbish.
it's called indiana jones
Thank-you Mega64!
*POSSIBLE SPOILER*
zombies/nazis/nazi zombies this might not be complete and total waste of time.
*</SPOILER>*
As far as a Metal Gear Solid movie goes, you're right. That said, I'd see it opening day anyway.
You can't make Romancing the Stone twice.
And all you REALLY need is a confident lead and the rest of the movie could be kind of bland. So long as we get that swarmy Nathan Drake wit.
My only concern is that this game follows almost EXACTLY the same format as Indy 1 and 3. Probably won't fly well with critics no matter how well made it is.
+1 internets to you.
They were not Nazi's they were Spanards. They were not Zombies they were cursed by elderado statue.
Any I would love to see Nolan North play Drake in the film... after all he is the voice, whilst recording the voice he is acting through mo-cap and he looks a dead ringer for Drake!!
And now is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune... great !!
But, then again, I liked the first Hellboy movie, which apparently a lot of people thought was absolute rubbish, and I think Star Trek VI was the best of the Trek films, so apparently (from everything I've heard), I'm in the minority.
