Uncharted 2 will have multiplayer, beta invites for a price photo

Whoops. Looks like Best Buy may have inadvertently rained on Sony’s announcement parade. A Kotaku tipster recently spotted a Best Buy pre-order box for InFamous with a bold sticker proclaiming the existence of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer as well as the opportunity to get into its beta by pre-ordering InFamous.

Sounds pretty “electrifying,” right?

Anyway, we contacted Sony for comment about the box. A representative told us that no announcements would be made until Monday -- the date of Sony’s “electrifying announcement.”

Regardless of whether or not this is the big news Sony has teased seems a bit pointless right now. Naughty Dog’s follow-up to Uncharted is going to have multiplayer! What do you guys think about that? I, for one, am stoked.

Already seen this on other sites, but sure to see incoming complaints about there being multiplayer in a game that doesn't make sense to have multiplayer and yet was marked down by many reviewers for not having multiplayer. Naughty Dog is damned if they do and damned if they don't.

oooooooooooo I really want to do this, but I have enough games to play and have been spending enough money as is.

I'm not too crazy about multi-player period, but I'm interested to see how they pull it off. Uncharted was pretty decent, but I couldn't imagine it having multi-player. I'll take a good single-player experience over the next big multi-player experience any day.

Thats cool they are going to have multiplayer but that's the last thing I'm going to care about in my Uncharted game.

I only care for multi-player if it's CO-OP. I really don't want to play deathmatches or something similar. Not in my Uncharted. But co-op? Please God let it be true.

Im all for online...as long as it doesnt affect me. Gears co-op could be fun, but without someone, it's still good. RE5 on the other hand...impossible to do solo on a harder diffictulty. So I say...just make it seperate...or not dependant on multiplayer.

Oh, and deathmatches could totally work in Uncharted 2

So the online multi will probably be a jungle-esque Gears of war? Or at least something vaguely familar to it. Bring it on I say, it would be awesome.

I don't get how people cannot grasp how it can be a multi player game, the gameplay engine itself already uses cover and good shooting mechanics which can easily translate into a smooth online experience.

Just pull a cod4 or a KZ2 and close of a level in a multiplayer map, make sure it's large, and add the abilty to enter in bulidings, get on top of roofs, hide behind cover, and have acess to areas not available in the single player mode.

Also, why arte people complaining about it? Not like you will ever need to play the multi, you can always never play it, think of it as a extra, optional mode. No one is holding a gun to your head saying you need to play the multi.

People aren't grasping the concept of this being a multi-player game because it's a cinematic, narrative shooter. Gears 1 was practically built for multi-player with it's shit-tastic campaign/story.

Also, although I don't feel TOO strongly against it, people might complain because more dev time on multi-player=less time on single-player.

Looks like I was half right...also uncharted multiplayer could really work..

Hehe climbing while shooting at your friends could be awesome...I can imagine chasing someone really good across the map...

Not every game needs multiplayer, this one being a prime example.

Indeed, it is a cinematic shooter, but it is a shooter nevertheless. Heck there were times where the shooting mechanics reminded me of Gears, because they both use the same cover and shoot style of gameplay.

A bit of tweaking is all it takes for a game like uncharted to become a good multyplayer shooter. It's not like the view perspective will change from 3rd person to 1st person.

In fact, with the enviromental interactivity Uncharted has, even if there was deathmatch modes, it would be really interesting due to how you interact with the enviroment!! :)

Yes, Gears is built to be a strong multiplayer game, but not a lot is needed to make uncharted a good multiplayer game. :)

I for one couldn't care less about multiplayer for this game. As long as the Singleplayer part of the game is still top notch I will be completely satisfied.

Good news. I just hope the single player experience isn't shortened by the addition of multiplayer.

While I personally didn't expect this nor was I asking for it, online multiplayer could work and even be fun for Uncharted 2. As it is though, I just want to play the single player campaign ASAP. Multiplayer is just some extra cheese on the pizza, some icing on the cake.

You know, I really was going to come in here and complain but instead I'll just wait and see. I have faith in Naughty Dog to put out a great game.

As someone who just played Uncharted for the first times, I can honestly say it does need a multiplayer mode to be a quality title. I hope Naughty Dog keeps its focus on an engaging single player experience and doesn't include multiplayer just to cater to the masses.

It isn't like Uncharted totally blew it's story at the end or anything. Gears had an awesome campaign, Uncharted was great too.

Yeah I think co-op would be a real blast. hopefully itll be online and off. Also depending on what certian modes are for multiplayer it might be good. But I dunno Modern Warfare 2 is commin out around the same time and that's gonna eat up all my multiplayer time.

Multiplayer means multiplayer trophies, I won't be able to get a platinum and have fun doing it like I did with the first one :S
