Uncharted 2 Twitter updates scrapped for being annoying photo

Let's integrate Twitter into our videogames! Seems like a good idea, especially with the social network's extreme popularity, but attempts to inject Twitter into Uncharted 2: Among Thieves have not exactly gone swimmingly. In fact, the feature has annoyed the piss out of people already, and the game's not even been released yet.

A number of reviewers have been enjoying early access to the game and turned on the Twitter feature. Soon their Twitter accounts were updating regularly to let a jealous world know about each completed chapter. Things got very irritating and Naughty Dog has now had to disable the feature, with an eye to re-releasing it at a later date.

"Some reviewers have had early access to the game and selected the option to update their Twitter accounts as they completed each chapter of the game," explains Naughty Dog boss Evan Wells. "This has resulted in some Twitter feeds being updated multiple times an hour. We obviously want to provide the best experience for everybody, so for the time being we’ve disabled Twitter updates on chapter completions. The option will still exist in the menus when the game ships on 10/13, but if activated, it will do nothing. Some time after the game has shipped, we’ll release a patch to reactivate the feature, but with a limit on the frequency of updates."

Oh Twitter, your social evil knows no bounds.

There goes my dream of getting Uncharted 2 twitter updates on my Xbox. Millions of fanboys would have cried out in terror, then been suddenly silenced by the irony of it all.
Oh well.

This seems like a bad idea because of spoilers.

You've killed the Final Boss who was your father.
The semi Hot Bitch got stabbed by the emo guitar player.
It was Ganon.......again.

I am so glad I am not on the Twitter boat. I fucking hate this service, it's a waste of time and energy. Why would a game developer even try to conform to this trend ?

I'm also in the anti-twitter boat. What the fuck is that all about?

Fair enough for saddo's to watch what their favourite celeb is doing, but why would anyone want to know what I am doing hour-hour?

I can see it's use in fan circles, but as a contributor? Fuck twitter.

People confuse twitter all the time as something that the most important thing is what you say. Who gives a shit about what you say? No one in theory, but those who do, well, do.

i use it to check out some developer's comments including Rareware, SEGA and DoubleFine. IT's just to check stuff you could not find that easily online.

I'm not following anybody with the beta, but people complaining about it annoyed me with it's frequency. Twitter isn't some dumping ground for what you're doing, developers, don't try to take the soul out of it.

I love it when you make sense. For the second time, I wholeheartedly agree with you - fuck Twitter.

Hm. You'd think they'd have just left the feature disabled prior to street date.

I don't use Twitter, so this would be pointless for me. It's a good idea though, use it for adding up all the kills you got on multiplayer that day, or for getting all the trophies. I don't think it should update every time I complete a chapter. From the looks of it, each chapter doesn't look like it takes that long to complete (One guy went through 4 chapters in an hour).
Naughty Dog, add Facebook support, and then I might use it. ;)

Yeah...decent idea, but would get very annoying.

I hooked my Twitter to a Drop.io website just to try it out, and before I knew it I had tweeted a dozen updates about the site...not cool.

Twitter's a useless service and those who use it deserve to be annoyed by these frequent updates.

Isn't it JUST the chapter completion that they are scrapping? Not the whole thing?

Then again, if you're tweeting, you're not doing it right unless you're posting multiple times per hour.

Couldn't you just not enter your Twitter username/password? Or is that just too easy?
