"In a world where Metal Gears are Solid, one man makes his stand..." is not a direct quote from this "theatrical" trailer, but it might as well be. Though the above video is incredibly cheesy, it doesn't stop me getting chills just watching the promise of pure, concentrated awesome coming out of Hideo Kojima's insane mind.
My only gripe is that I wish they'd have used Cam Clarke for Liquid Ocelot. Clarke is one of my favorite parts of the MGS series (as my constant Liquid impressions on Podtoid might suggest) and while Patric Zimmerman is doing a fantastic job of adding a Liquid flair to his regular Ocelot voice, it's just not quite the same.
That said, this trailer is facepalm-worthy and yet it's still getting me pumped and/or superpumped for Guns of the Patriots, and that's not a bad thing at all. EVIL IS POWERFUL; COURAGE IS SOLID, GUYS! I can't believe they said that.

Meet the rest of the team
After the GTA 4 trailers most other trailer either seem shit or way too corny. Damn that hyped up game.
Btw Jim how bout doing a JImpressions on the story of GTA now you love the game and stick in plenty of spoilers.
I actually like not having Cam Clarke do "Liquid's" voice. I mean, it IS Ocelot's body (mostly). Why wouldn't it just be a modified Ocelot voice? IMO they screwed up in MGS2 when they had Cam do the voice.
The world is changing fast. Gaming is bigger than movies. Everything is downloaded and those that don't play video games or go online. Are being left behind. You're becoming obsolete, outdated. This isn't gonna be your world anymore. It's gonna be ours!
If i had handed in this script to my 5th grade English teacher she would have crossed out every other word. "you don't have to say this, it's implied. double negative. say more with less." lol
I admit though. As far as this game goes, the cornyness cant detract from the awesomeness.
"Hi I'm Don La Fontaine. Once upon a time my raspy voice was added to trailers to make them exciting and dramatic. Now after doing far too many trailers for romantic comedies, I am pure cheese. I'm so cheesey you could serve me up with macaroni. Mmmmmm that's good eatin."
yikes. That was lame... So I suppose they felt that since the game is for a console that dons the spider-man font so proudly they must enhance that motif by including superfluos symbiote like abstract sequences...? If this were a trailer for the metal gear movie, it would be expected, but jeeze. Not even Kojima's superb cinematopgraphy shows through in this clip. Sort of feels like a satire in my opinion, it's that bad...or good?
Did you see Snake going from Old to Young in a flash!?
For fuck sake, so many more questions were brought up there!
And who was that "Liquid"ish woman.
couple things:
1: Everything is better with a lil' Don La Fontaine
2: @itchy, i noticed that too. Could explain the whole "young snake playable at Shadow Moses" clip that blew everyone's mind a little while ago
Jim you're terribly bad at downplaying. You concentrate on Courage is Solid when you SHOULD be concentrating on how awesome everything else is. The shapeshifting beauty, The chase scene with the Metal gears, the NEVER BEFORE SEEN areas in the game, the badass fist fight with Snake and Ocelot... but your inner fanboy couldn't resist a pot shot. Pretty pathetic.
Tonx: You DO realize I am the biggest Metal Gear Solid fan on staff and am incredibly excited about this, right? Or are you a professional fucking moron?
Funny, i would have never have guessed by the way you were whining about a corny line in a trailer obviously aimed to look like a blockbuster movie homage. but whatever gets you hits, right?
"Though the above video is incredibly cheesy, it doesn't stop me getting chills just watching the promise of pure, concentrated awesome coming out of Hideo Kojima's insane mind."
You're right, that's some total whining right there. I should stop being SO SO NEGATIVE about my most anticipated game release of the year.
Seriously though, trying to use THIS to prove the old washed up claim that I am "zomg anti-PS3" is a stretch of the imagination, even for the Sony obsessives.
I saw this in my RSS feeder and as soon as I read just the article title, I thought to myself "how much you want to bet it's Jim Sterling article?" Lo and behold, I was right.
Wow... Never thought I'd see something about Metal Gear promoted in the most American way possible... All that needed was a US flag exploding and a shot of Duke Nukem.
Still good, but very unexpected. I guess I should at least be thankful it wasn't 20 fucking minutes this time...

Goddamn there's so many new posters now. I swear every time I comment I see at least one, crazy!
Also, new footage!
Gruff...voice...overload...
I riked it.
Can anything be controlled? lol

AND SO AM I! Man I'm pumped.
For as serious as a story as Metal Gear games tell, they've never really taken themselves too seriously.
I think it fits.

i'm trying to stay away from too many spoilers but i can't NOT watch these previews.

You're not very clever.
No, I wasn't serious. Even though this trailer was the cheesiest thing I have ever seen, nothing will ever keep me away from buying MGS4.
And then Hideo Kojima was a flying car.
Still good, but very unexpected. I guess I should at least be thankful it wasn't 20 fucking minutes this time...
