UmJammer Lammy doesn't suck ass like Parappa PSP did photo

To this day I'm still pissed off about the PSP release of Parappa the Rapper. If you haven't played it, don't. It's broken so badly that it's unplayable. How could you mess up button timings in game about rhythm? Worst. Port. Ever.

As you may have heard, the spiritual successor and semi sequel to Parappa, UmJammer Lammy, was just released as a PSOne Classics download for PS3 or PSP this week. I was worried that this, one of my favorite games of all time, would suffer the same fate. Good news: I'm pleased to say that it didn't, and that the control is perfectly fine. There's no timing lag at all.

I've played through about half the game on my PSPgo and can safely say that the game play is fully intact. Series fans, feel free to pick this up. Newcomers, you have to play this game. At only $5.99, you can't beat it.

Did I eat my drink? I thought milk was pink!

I think I must be the only person who not only has played this game, but still owns his PS1 copy.

I also still own my PS1 copy. Otherwise, I'd be buying this.

Oh so THAT's why I kept failing on Parappa! I bought the PSP version, really excited, and damn near destroyed the thing within two hours when I couldn't get past the second level.

All this time I thought I'd sucked (which didn't make sense since I rock the fuck out of Gitaroo Man). I feel so much better about myself now, and may very well give Lammy a download.

Parappa was the first game I got for my PS1! Still have it on my shelf. It's a treat.

Wow, I didn't know that -- glad I passed up Parappa, then. But I never got a chance to play Lammy, so I'm psyched to give it a try this weekend.

@Jim

I also couldn't get past the second level on the PSP port. This little bit of news about the timing makes perfect sense. I never had that much trouble with the game before. Also, the drummer is the best part of Umjammer Lammy.

Also, this song is awesome

You said the PSP Parappa was off? So was the PSX UmJammer...

PSX Parappa was the only real "on" one of the series: it's good to see this new one is doing it right.

I'm with Jim. When I couldn't beat the first level after mastering UmJammer Lammy on the PSX, I knew something was up. It's nice to know I was right.

Unlike the port of Gitaroo Man(which improved on the timing) the PSP Parappa literally made me hate the whole game/series for a little while.

Bought the PS1 copy about 2 months ago. Actually got it free since I bought it w/ 2 other games at my used game store.

Wow, I'm glad I never bought the PSParappa, then!

This is awesome, I'm definitely gonna download it tomorrow.

@ScaryWomanizingPigMask

That one is great, but this one has always been my personal favorite. It's just so bizarre!

I was thinking Parappa for PSP was a lot more difficult than i remembered it being. I just thought it was me getting old and uncoordinated. Now im pissed that i wasted my money on it!

I didn't have any trouble with the PSP Parappa, but I'm glad to hear I'll have even more no-trouble with the PSN version of Lammy.

Now if they only included the original Hell lyrics of the second to last leve, I'd die a happy man.

Love that song, too. I bought the soundtrack JUST for that song!

I'm a die-hard Matsuura fan. I own every region release of this game already as it's one of my all time favorites... but playing it on my PSP go for $5.99 is something I can't pass up. This is the best news of the week for me!

Man, I had no idea they botched the PSP port of Parappa so badly. Thanks for saving me twenty(?) bucks!

I hope I'm not the only one who thought the airplane song was the best...

And, seeing so many dudes here liking the game completely validates all the days my friend and I rocked out on this game years ago, despite all the girly things that could freak out a couple of middle school males...

Never played Parappa or Um Jammer Lammy. I was planning on getting this used but having it on my hard drive is way better than a disk. Good news for me.

I didn't have any difficulty getting through the parappa psp port, nor did I notice any off-timing. My only gripe is that it should have just been a $5.99 psn download.

Does this port include the "Hell level" that was taken out of the original U.S. release?

Unfortunately, the songs just aren't as good in Um Jammer Lammy as they are in Parappa the Rapper. You quoted the only really fantastic one, Dale. Autopilot on, autopilot off!

I didn't think that the Parappa PSP game was borked. I bought it and immediately played right up to the fifth level, where I always got stuck on the PSX version anyway.

I still have my Umjammer Lammy Playstation 1 copy as well, and it's easily the best game of the series. I don't know what Dexter's talking about.
