I thought I'd seen some pretty pimp setups until we caught a glimpse of this guy's place. Featuring 35 amplifiers, 37 speakers, and a wealth of sources and processing devices, the room you see here looks more like a meeting of the Magi in Evangelion than it does a home theater. That dog looks pretty comfortable, though. Youd think that a guy with enough money to put something like this together (not to mention money enough to own a standalone Blu-ray player in addition to his PS3,) would have shelled out a few extra bucks in order to supplement this haven of sensory delight with more than one gaming console. Don't get me wrong, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love to hang out in there long enough to play through a good RPG, (if such a thing existed on the PS3) but as I always say about gaming rigs: lack of Dreamcast = instant fail. Check out some more photos in the gallery below.

Speakers aren't plugged in and they have more amps than they need. Silly fools.
What is this mans occupation?
He's doing it wrong.
Seriously, if that set up wasn't designed for Rez HD, I don't know what is.
OMG!!! OMG!!! THEY FINALLY DID IT!!!!
THEY HAVE DISCOVERED HAVEN!!!!!!!!!
it's all fake. nothing is connect.it's a sony publicity stunt.
This reminds me of the South Park Guitar Hero episode. This guy scored 1 million points at building his gaming rig.
Seriously, all that and no SNES? What the fuck?
@wardrox
It's ultimate. Maybe they're wireless. And as for more amps, an amp only has so many channels. The multiple amps are necessary, not superfluous.
Wireless speakers?
Still, that's over the top.
The Speakers seem irnoic. Seeing as how if he uses the system he will be deaf within a week.
Wow. Over the top my ass. Gimme!
Didn't someone mention this in the C-Blogs awhile back?
I saw this on a technology blog. the guy watches movies using a very high def and very expensive projector. Also he spended something like a million dollars on the setup.
some one point out to me where are the power cables. there is your proof.
@Angusm- did I mention that I don't care?
Also, I forgot to add that the dude had a Laserdisc player listed as one of his connected devices. LOL.
@ Topher
Laserdisc and no Dreamcast? WTF? You need to set this man straight.
Six million dollars.
i mean like skeet.
SNES would actually probably look poor on a big screen, sadly. Still, he needs to at least get a 360 in there as well.
In the forum post he said it cost 6 million... insane. As for the wires if you look close at the close of the amp you can see a wire. I would imagine if you spend 6 million on a setup you won't have wires just running across the floor.
Uh, I have nothing else to say other than:
DO WANT!
I want to see the electricity bill.
i would never put speakers in front of my record collection if it was that big(that record collection has to be famous). nor would i want to listen to anything thats playing in that room. hate to see the electric meter when that stuff goes on.
...Yeah, let's just hope he forgets to lock his doors tonight.
These pictures aren't from anyones setup, they're also not from sony PR. They're from a company that sells screening rooms for people in the movie industry. Google FTW.
The lack of wires is probably due to them adding and removing speakers and components for different types of setups.
Very neat looking. It seems as though he built it moreso for movies than he did the PS3. I don't know if he says he built it specifically for his PS3 as I was led to believe. If so, that's pretty retarded.
But oy, if the fella can afford it - and obviously he can - then I say kudos to him and I hope it was really worth it! I don't think I can be told how that feels to sit in such a seat watching a movie. So until the day comes that I am able to, I can only imagine.
Though, personally feeling. Maybe there shoulda been a couple extra seats? You ask me, such a setup demands to be enjoyed by a group of good friends and some popcorn. It looks a bit.... Inaccessible the way it is.
I'd say what Pedro said...but he said it first. like everything in the super model high roller world its over priced and unnecessary. Not to mention could feed 5 families of 4 for years.
wow guaranteed head 'splosion
I think it's real and i also think its fucking awesome.
This was in Mr. West's blog also.
If I were a girl I'd be concerned about the hitech rape dungeon below on entering that room
I bet this guy also has a Segway. Dubious.
Evangelion reference FTW.
Think it sounds any good?
Wasn't Magi the computer in Nerv??
The guy is a record industry executive which goes to show that that particular industry is ready for the dog track.
That is a ridiculous setup, but no Dreamcast does = fail.
You would die if that thing blasted full power at you. But I think it's probably fake or a showroom, looksee? No wires coming from the speakers.
http://blog.audiovideointeriors.com/208great/ here's the source if you guys want to read more about it.
I will admit I'd give a testicle to play super stardust on that shit
"it's all fake. nothing is connect.it's a sony publicity stunt."
If it was they would have a Sony Pictures movie on the screen. It's not fake, just eccentric.
is there a movie or game that could properly exploit the benefits of so many speakers? Is 40 speakers necessarily better than 10? Will a TV that big be so much better than a, I dunno, let's low-ball, 60 in set?
How can this exist when people are dying and stuff?
In the last photo that poor PS3 looks like the kid that was always picked last in gym class...
I may have to sacrifice both my legs to play Everyday Shooter on that baby! and then I can kick back relax and watch DMC4 install....
im the first one to complain about this... and i think its weird... so much shit in there and what, one measly couch? It looks fairly comfortable I guess, but if the room is gonna be that pimp why not get some sick furniture or something, I guess the word "friend" never occurred to whoever set this room up.
he couldnt afford a la-z-boy?
I saw this on ( i think ) engadget a couple of days ago its really fully functional and an unbelievable sight to behold...
it cost him close to a million dollar and he built it as a demonstration of his skill and is now hoping to sell a few of these babies, conveniently however, he lives at his 'showroom' so he gets to use it the whole time :-)
it is NOT fake :-)
its called an Xbox360
Everyone's missed the crucial thing here... That room has got to sound awful. All those speakers and the room is a giant fucking box with a wooden floor.
That's going to sound echo-y and have a shitload of reverb drowning out the sound. Yuck. 10 minutes of any action sequence in that room and your ears will be bleeding from all the high frequencies.
No sound proofing = poor sound design for such a setup.
If he can afford that but not the other consoles, than he fails at life.
The Ultimate PS3 Setup is cool and all, but what games is he going to play with it?
Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all night.
Did anyone else think that this setup really gives him a huge advantage over other online gamers in FPSs? Seriously, I have to figure out whether sound is coming from the left or right speaker on my TV while he has to figure out if it was from woofer #245 or woofer #246 in the NorthWest quadrant at 17 degrees from central point.
Also, I agree with dvddesign.
...Wow. Just wow.
@Topher: Yeah, I blogged about this (NOT to say “c-blogs did it”, of course), and I titled my post “Well, that’s just excessive...” I like your post better, though, because I only had the header image and the first pic (the one with Ratatouille on the screen). $6 million...crazy, huh? Essentially, the guy markets ultra-high-end home theaters to the rich and famous.
I seriously think that the only reason he doesn't have any other system in a setup such as this is simply because they would look like shit. He probably has a separate "throwback" gaming room in the bat cave, next to the N64 torture chamber.
@brosef
I don't think the software's going to be coming out of those adequately to differentiate between the speakers. He's got 37 speakers, but to what end? The amps are splitting a 5.1/7.1 signal. Assuming that he's throwing on the .1 to one or two subs (which contain no L-R differentiation), it seems like there's just going to be a lot of overlapping channels of information. I don't know how much I'd trust a bunch of hardware to competently remix audio that's pretty much fine the way it is at 5.1/7.1
If it's just there for the sake of being overkill, that's fine, but I wouldn't want that many speakers. That whole setup is really unappealing to a more refined eye and ear.
Though his choice of projector is excellent. I've seen the images those large 1,000 lumens projectors can make. They sure are pretty...
That setup is just sad. Whoever produced that has more money than sense.
Bravo for the wholly appropriate Evangelion reference!
Holy crap. Its beautiful.
6 million and it loooks like this? This guy got robbed. I've seen home theatre setups, with stadium seating, all the speakers hidden, and looks like you would want to watch a movie there for a million or less. This looks like it was thrown together by a moron with to much money on his hands.
You dumbasses, this is not Sony and this has nothing to do with the ps3, this is a 6million dollar kipnis studio standard home theatre. "Its a sony publicity stunt", go troll somewhere else.
http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/06/a-look-around-the-6-million-kipnis-studio-standard-home-theater/
Just because its not wired doesnt mean anything, you ever heard of wireless speakers? And there is sound foam on the walls, so given that this is a fully operational theatre as with todays technology it very well could be fully operational, this would be an amazing sounding and looking theatre.
looks like shit to me, makes NO sense. My money is on a promo photo for some stupid lads mag. Anyone who loved hi-fi separates this much could not create something so ugly. The future is shell shaped anyway. http://dvice.com/archives/2008/02/fantastic_nauti.php
You know, is it just me or is the actual PS3 (the most important part of this setup) hidden from view. I can't see it anywhere.
Looks super freaking awesome but I think the colorful lights would distract me.
cool all he needs are games now
I wonder how long this too to set up. And couldnt half the speakers been just as effective and he could have saved some money and bought some more games and systems. But hey, i'm not hatin by any means
There are probably a lot of dead zones with that speaker set up. Also 35 amps are unnecessary. Still, I'd like to use the room...I'd just take most of the unnecessary speakers out.
whoa!! i thought my setup was pretty good,a 50in Panasonic 1080p plasma with a Pioneer 7.1 surround sound amp, 7 Paradigm speakers with a Reel Acoustics sub with my Xbox 360 & PS3 and PC all hooked into the tv & Sterio..but that dudes system gives me chillz.that setup must of cost him a shitload of coin...BUT i'm still stoaked with my setup-----FOR NOW!!!
If you look in the first picture you can see that the walls of the room are covered with sound proofing tiles, and although not the most sound absorbent of materials, the hardwood floors wouldn't be as bad as you think. i assume the ceiling is also made up of some sort of sound absorbing material, be it specific sound proofing tiles or just those rectangular Styrofoam tiles.
i wish he would have included a better components list. i guess i could look everything up on google for wattage of amps, etc, but i think i've already lost interest.
That many amps and speakers is unnecessary. It's not cool, it's stupid.
I like the projector though.
I would Rock Band the shit out of that place.
Also wasn´t he a video editor or something?
if this guy spend this much money on girls he can have 17 wives
pathetic
Completely unnecessary and not even set up right, but still nice gear.
all that money all of it went down the drain he has to much time and it also seems to much money on him. hey dude send me some of that money
loL@the nerds who know it all
haha! all that and only 3 seats. destructowned!
WOW. And I thought I was cool with my 7tv/computer monitor setup for all consoles except PS3...
Woah.......that is an impressive rig.
Where is the NES?
Wow...more reasons never to leave the house.
The downside? Not pacemaker friendly. Sorry grandma!
Honestly, the PS3 is the only game console? This set up could use some help.
dude needs some serious Rock Band for this shit.
Ummm......deaf by 30?
@dvddesign:
You're absolutely right. The sheer number of reflective surfaces in that room have got to make anything played sound like a horrible high-frequency mishmash.
Th
