Ultimate cross-over game is ultimate: Card Sagas Wars

     video

Holy Jimminy Soulja-Boy Christmas. Now this project is totally bananas, and not just because it features Master Chief doing a multi-hit super combo on Mega Man X. What's really insane is that Card Sagas Wars, a presumably fan made game, actually looks good. With the exception of a few crappy backgrounds, this thing looks even better than Jump Ultimate Stars, the huge Manga cross-over game produced by Nintendo themselves.

Hit the jump for my initial findings on Card Sagas Wars and it's potential answers to all of life's questions.

[Via Kotaku

Though I can't say anything for sure about this project due to my inability to read Spanish (the game is being made in Madrid, Spain), I'm gathering that Card Sagas Wars is a game made possible thanks to the M.U.G.E.N. game engine, the custom 2D fighting game maker that helped bring so many popular posts here on D-toid to fruition. M.U.G.E.N. games are known for using recycled sprites from other games, which is part of what makes Card Sagas Wars so strange. Though a few of these sprites look a little familiar, I'm pretty sure most of them are new for this game, amazing when you consider the huge amount of content that Card Sagas Wars is packing.

This game is to feature characters from Killer Instinct, Final Fantasy, Advance Wars, Silent Hill, Capcom's Dungeons and Dragons games, the list goes on. I've seen many of M.U.G.E.N. projects before, but nothing quite like this. Also worth mentioning is that according to one of Card Sagas Wars' creator's personal blogs, he is only eighteen-years-old. Did an eighteen-year-old make this many sprites by himself?

Good grief...

It gets stranger when you take a look at the tutorial section on the game's official site, which shows you, the viewer at home, how to make your own 2D fighting game sprites. If Card Sagas Wars sprites were made by regular shlubs like you and me who are some how turning onto pixel placement Michaelangelos after reading the tutorial, that would partially explain how this game has some much original content. Could Card Sagas Wars be the first globally created, infinite possibility, 2D fighting war dream collaboration project? There is only one way to find out.

First one of you who makes a Mr. Destructoid sprite that actually gets used in Card Sagas Wars gets a life time supply of hugs from me, the sandwich of your choosing, and crisp new fifty dollar bill.

Er...is this the guy who makes all those cards with random anime and videogame characters?

IIRC, he's been putting up the cards online for a really long time. I forget the link at the moment, but I'm almost certain it's the same guy. Lemme ask around a bit...

He's been making these cards for a long while, and I knew he was making some sort of card game, but I didn't know it was a fighter. Sick.

Just the existence of this game, on what looks like a site with commercial hopes, is a total mystery. I wonder is Spain is free of internet distributed media copyright laws or something insane like that?

For the longest time, I could download any GBA, N64, any kind of Rom I wanted (not that I did mind you. That would be stealing) from a Israeli site (i think) called DragonRom. The site's owner claimed that because he was in Israel, he could do what ever he wanted and that "foreign" companies couldn't mess with him.

Spain is too big and too crazy to also have a loophole like that, but I wonder if being from that country offers some sort of legal protection, or at least, less visibility to Nintendo and all the other companies this dud is borrowing from.

If it's all of them, I'm totally gonna die of happiness.

Cooming soon, bitches. And I suspect that fair use comes into play with the characters so long as no money is made. That didn't stop Atari from coming down on those guys making that DBZ game in the Quake 3 engine that spanked anything the official licensor put out, but free publicity is usually pretty cool.

Screw all those other characters.

I saw McDohl, Riou, Jowy, and Nanami in the card list.

If they're playable? I'll never need another fighting game again. Ever.

I love this game, and I love the huge character list. I even love that they threw in the classes from Diablo 2. But honestly, Andy from Advance Wars? The Trauma Center couple? If all the characters go in the game, I am le confused.

Any game, however, that lets me play as Sabin Figaro immediately ranks among my favorites. So far, that's only been FFVI. This game looks awesome.

It's probably just going to be the most recognizable / popular ones.

Q: What is Card Sagas Wars?(CSW for short)
A: It's a fangame created by Ahruon and Orkimedes using M.U.G.E.N., a freeware program to create 2D fighter games.

Q: Do I need something else to play it?
A: No, just download and play.

Q: When does it come out?
A: There's no release date for now, but the first version(beta) will be announced soon.

Q: What will include that beta?
A: It will only have 4 characters, but it will let you see how's the gameplay and graphic style.
These four characters will be: Link(Legend of Zelda), Cloud(Final Fantasy VII), X(Megaman X) and KOS-MOS(Xenosaga)

I took on last look at the "blue cards" before bed. I counted three dudes named Ryu, two named Max (one being from Sam and Max), two named Tron, two named Leon, and one named Lightning.

They put Lighting from Final Fantasy XIII in this game.

If Lighting ends up being playable in a 2D game before Mr Destructoid is, that will be a serious blow to my conception of reality.
