UK web site offering Xbox 360 Metal Gear Solid 4 pre-orders? photo

Does music retailer HMV know something that we don't?

This page on HMV UK's web site lists Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as available for preorder... for the Xbox 360. The release date is listed as September 26th, 2008 and is priced at £39.99. Sure, this is hardly proof of of an upcoming Xbox 360 version, but the 'I told you so posts' are probably already being drafted. Let me fix that.

This is more than likely a typo. The same site lists the upcoming PS3 exclusive Haze as available for preorder as well. Sony's Kaz Hirai and Phil Harrison are always pulling fast ones on us, but we think they were serious about the exclusivity of both of these high profile titles.

Oh, and you have to love how Tom Hank's animated atrocity The Polar Express is listed under MGS4's 'customers who bought this product also bought...' category. Seriously?

Is HMV just crazy? Is their web guy with messing with us?

[Via HMV - thanks to several tipsters, but Action Bastard had the coolest name]

I doubt it, HMV rarely knows whether it's having a shit or a haircut.

So, wait lemme get this straight. HMV has essentially come up with a brilliant plan to con gullible 360 owners out of their money for fake pre-orders? Awesome!

Perhaps a disgruntled HMV employee's (probably a MS fanboy) final fuck you to the company?

The Plot thickens...

Haze is high profile? And it's a timed exclusive.
So that's a bad example to use.

It's a pretty dumb mistake for HMV to make, as they will have to spend money and resources to refund all the customers who pre-order this if it never happens.

If it stays up for more than 2 weeks, I'm going to call it legit. A lot of games get "announced" via showing up on some retail web site, Beautiful Katamari for one.

I thought I heard something about it actually going 360 eventually somewhere. Well, if this is true let the massive PS3 fanboy suicide commence.

That's no mistake. That's definitely inside information. Why? Because that date of Sept 26 08 is too specific. No error would do that. Someone knows something. Whether the information they got is a lie or the truth. Bottom line is - Someone was told something. By who or why, remains a mystery for now.

They also say that Haze for the 360 is coming out in 2007. I'm pretty sure it's not.

two more points that make HMV look like idiots:

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=280;-1;-1;-1&sku=609454

blue dragon... they say it's 1 disc, but it's actually three

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/simpleSearch.do?searchUID=-2305093915253989232&pGroupID=6&simpleSearchString=unreal+tournament+3&primaryID=6

they also say unreal tournament 3 isn't coming out on the PS3 and that the 360 version is coming out in a month... both points being wrong.

They also said there was a leprachaun up in the tree, and when asked for proof they provided this picture as evidence:

Main webmaster for HMV was quoted as saying "It look like a lepracan ta me!"

Could be an oopsie. I'm thinking it's not, though, since it's dated half-a-year after the PS3 release - almost exactly what I thought would happen. (This way, it's still technically a PS3 exclusive. For five months.)

Time for me to leave some more cryptic hit-and-run comments on Kotaku. Muahaha...

Gran Turismo 5 has bikes? When did this happen? See screenshot in Bricfa's link.

Methinks this is some kind of last-day prank by one of their IT guys.

As others have said, Haze is a timed exclusive.

What happens, when it doesn't come out, to all of the preorders? I hate when people lie on teh internets... I hope whoever is responsible for this is anally violated by that carrot.

If it turns out to be true, then I take it back. He can be anally pleasured by that carrot.
