UK retailers reduce the price of the PSP Go photo

UK gamers can tell you that if you wanted to pick up a PSP Go on launch day, it was a real hit to the bankbook, as the little handheld launched at £224.99 (roughly $359 US). And you thought $250 was bad! However, it seems like price cuts are already happening. Joystiq reports that GAME, Amazon.co.uk, HMV and Play have all already discounted the Go to £199.99. While that still comes out to an ugly $319 in US dollars, it's certainly a little bit better -- and possibly the difference it may make to some consumers unsure about opening their pocketbooks.

Sony says that sales for the PSP Go are going well so far, and while we haven't seen any hard sales numbers yet, the people I know that have gotten them seem pretty pleased with their purchase. I haven't purchased one yet because I got one of the gorgeous new Carnival Colors PSP 3000's while I was in Tokyo last week, but I may grab one eventually. Anyone get one and loving it? If not, why not?

Eh, PSP-1000's good enough for me. I will probably get a bigger memory stick for it, but no way am I gonna bother getting a Go.

Ever since I took apart my PSP-2000 and couldn't it back together again(almost had it but I busted up the pcb board) I've been PSP-less... and it sucks. But I'll be getting a 3000 soon, the Go can wait a year or two.

Tell you what Sony, change that funky UK funny money sign into a US Dollar sign and you have yourselves a deal!

@ B1zaar0 -

Personally, if the PSP Go was $200, I would still prefer an Ipod Touch.

Funny how they claim sales are going well then announce a price drop not even a week after release. Hell, the $250 USD is ridiculous. Even if I was a Sony fan, I wouldn't pay a penny over $200, and even still, I'd take an iPod Touch over a PSP for that price. $320 USD is freakin' robbery.

You think Europe has it bad! The launch price for the PSPgo in Australia was A$449 (US$398), one retailer dropped it to A$398 (US$352) for the weekend but has now put it back to its original price. Not that it really matters anyway, pretty soon they will likely ban all forms of electronic gaming over here.

Most of the price difference is the fact that all UK prices have to include sales tax when advertised. At least $24 of the current price is just profiteering, though.

Now it costs as much as a used PS3! Yay!

PSP-3000 is still £60 cheaper at most places and a PS3 is still only about £50 more. It's nice the price has dropped a little already, but it's sad that that has been purely down to the retailers and not Sony themselves and it's still not enough of a drop to really make it worth it either.

A price cut a week after launch (even if it just was in the UK) means bad (or more like terrible) sales. Retailers must be desperate to let go of their current stock and probably won't re-stock once what they have is gone.

Well when the real price is your soul it doesn't matter the monetary price.

I have one of the early Jap PSP-1000 releases, so a Go would be attractive for the updated screen perhaps (less blur?), but really, as it won't play any of my games, a PSP-3000 would be a better idea.

This isn't exactly a price cut. Everywhere I saw the PSPGo on Thursday it was being sold for £200. Just UK retailers undercutting RRP as usual.

Wow... guess it doesn't pay to be an early adopter. How long has the system been out before dropping 10%?

Not at all surprised. PSP Go is a sweet piece of kit, but its simply going to bomb and bomb hard at such an extortionate price. I'll wait til they are going for £50 and pick on up in a few years.

Better luck next time, Sony. You must learn (the hardway), or you will burn.

Now if that drops to $200 USD, and we get some CFW up and running, I'll take a look at one lol.
