My first reaction to this box set, without even taking a close look at the contents of the package, is that I want it. It's black. It's sexy. It has the words "Professor Layton" on it. Of course, I already own a black DSi, so I don't need it, but my "Buy it!" radar goes off anyway. That's the power of excellent packaging, I suppose.
What you do get if you buy this UK-only bundle is a black DS and a copy of Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I was hoping for some art on the DS itself -- a little Layton on the cover of my DS would be freaking RAD -- but it's not there. Just clever box art, folks. Still, it's looking good, you have to admit. The set retails for £120 (roughly $195) and comes out around Father's Day. If I had a dad cool enough to appreciate this, I'd be set for life.

Unique paint jobs with colors or simple designs would be much more desirable, though the flat black is perfectly fine too. I don't have a DSi, so this is something I'd definitely consider if it were released in the US - but I'm not really all that keen on getting one until they can figure out how to do slot-1 GBA/GB/SNES emulation through a not-R4i.
The Nintendo DSI is a definite improvement over the older Nintendo DS because it has bigger dual screens and two integrated 640x480 cameras.
You will also like the integrated web browser because the touch screen and dual screens allow you to surf faster than on the Sony PSP.

shame the package is with a ds lite instyead of a dsi :(
still need to get a ds eventualy but i prefer a dsi instead of ds lite if i buy one.
