The latest game consoles are often in short supply during the holiday season, and it's not uncommon for the most desired ones to go for higher prices, but shoppers have gone absolutely bonkers in attempts to acquire a Nintendo Wii.
According to UK newspaper Metro, Wii bundles are being sold for a more than £1,000 (just over $2,000) on eBay UK. We didn't believe it either, but a quick search on ebay.co.uk proved us wrong. This bundle, which sold for £1,070 ($2,189 by today's conversion, may be one of the auctions that Metro was referring to. Granted, the winning bidder (check out his user name) doesn't seem like most reputable guy.
As MCV points out, things seem to have calmed down a bit, as most auctions are ending with with prices in the £250 (about $500) range. The US Wii sales on eBay seem to be going for similar prices.
Of course, you can always find a "successful" freak eBay auction with an outrageous price. Here's a US sale for a Wii bundle that came to $10,990. Right.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

Serves them right.
If I can't find one, I'm moving to something else. I'm not going to turn into one of those insane Tickle Me Elmo people.
also, I hate it when you see a Wii auction on Ebay and the seller says it comes with 14 games, but really it just has Wii Sports and Wii Play... thats like selling Rayman and saying ur selling 50 games
