Another week, another round of UK chart positions, and yet another top slot for Activision's Call of Duty: World at War. It's hardly surprising that a World War II game does so well in the UK. After all, WWII was the last time Britain was ever good at something.
Resistance 2 seems to be following LittleBigPlanet's footsteps by having respectable sales, but failing to set the charts on fire like its rivals' exclusives have done. While Gears of War 2 and anything on the Wii have all enjoyed top positions, Insomniac's PS3-exclusive shooter debuts at number ten.
It is interesting to note that Lips, Microsoft's big "casual" title that was supposed to bring in all sorts of new consumers, failed to chart in the top twenty at all. Given the huge success of SingStar in the UK, this makes it doubly interesting. Not that I expect Microsoft to take the hint and focus on its own market. I'm sure MS will continue desperately aping the Wii.
Otherwise, it's the usual suspects of FIFA 09, Need for Speed and Brain Training. Hit the jump for the full chart listing.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
It isn't so bad this time round but it's still annoying to see so many Wii mini-game games up there.
"UK charts: World at War can't be shaken, Lips not so successful"
Uh, because Resistance 2 is more relevant to my readers' interests?
Gotta love an armchair blogger. I know you're just going to bat for the poor defenseless PS3, but do try and understand Destructoid's demographic before telling me how to do my job. <3
1) It's like Singstar - a slow burner that achieves sustained sales over time rather than massive peaks in week one.
2) The fact that Microsoft spent no money at all trying to market it to those casual gamers they know it exists. All the PR effort (not much) seems to be around NXE, which isn't going to shift any units in the UK given the lack of media streaming.

I thought America were the only allied force involved in wwII?...
The guy in the back looks like a slave to me.
I'm surprised how high Wii Music is in the multiplatform and Wii charts. I guess a lot of people just bought it because it was a new "charming" Wii title but there's no word from their reaction. I'd like to hear a few reviews from that demographic.
They can't really think those terrible midi versions of such songs as "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" are good, can they?
@Heretic, you think you can come in at the last minute and claim all of it was up to you? Yeh, cause the Polish didn't decipher the Enigma Code or anything :P
@Jim That's not true! Britain won the world cup once, and don't forget the mediagasm over winning the Rugby too.
I'm also surprised that Singstar Abba isn't in the charts considering that Mama Mia is now out on DVD
So I can't since I forget they are there kinda like canada but farther away and with less hocky and more words that do not make sense. Where is the UK again?
I find the japanese more easy people to understand, and hell they got damn walking and running robots and "hard gay" I can not ignore them.
Democracy does not work.
The Yank tanks helped us good old boys out at the dieing stages which we are thankfull for, however as a force the US are rubbish, what wars have you actually won on your own?? look at Naam and the Gulf..nadda nothing! Actually the only war you have won was Arnie against the Predator...oh no he is Austrian!! theres a reason why USA rhyms with ghey!
I wasn't impressed by the beta and would never buy R2, but I think the take on this news is a bit misleading.
But i was not there maybe I am wrong and they tell me lies.
I like to think it went like this.
I think you will find the English beat the English to become independant and call them selfves Americans...oh yeah and then slaughtered all the native...
Saying that....i love that picture!! it would look awesome on a canvass!! :¬)
