UK Charts: Uncharted 2 can't top FIFA photo

Sony really knows how to time a release. There is no doubt that, had Uncharted 2: Among Thieves released at any other time, it would have soared to the top of the UK Chart. Unfortunately, however, Sony's latest PS3 exclusive decided to come out after FIFA 10, and as such, has been held in second place thanks to Britain's creepy obsession with soccer ... and yes I meant to call it soccer.

Aside from that, it's more or less business as usual. As always, you can hit the jump and see what the Brits have been buying this week, which is more or less the same thing they buy every week. It amazes me that in such a small island, everybody doesn't own two copies of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games by now.

  1. FIFA 10
  2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
  3. Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
  4. Wii Sports Resort
  5. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
  6. Need for Speed: Shift
  7. Brutal Legend
  8. Professor Layton and Pandora's Box
  9. Halo 3: ODST
  10. Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
  11. Wii Fit
  12. Super Smash Bros: Brawl
  13. Star Wars: Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
  14. Guitar Hero 5
  15. Mario Kart Wii
  16. Gran Turismo
  17. Grand Theft Auto IV
  18. Brain Training
  19. Dirt 2
  20. Up

The world is full of sheeple, they buy a lot of videogames these days.

The blockbuster I work at now seems to really be pushing Mario and Sonic at the witer Olympics. Doesn't seem to have worked though....

Something to consider, Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympics came out this week and seemingly isn't in that chart.

Thats's Cesc Fabregas, I'm a United supporter and still I freely admit he is one of the best players in the world. The art on the back of Wenger, Almunia and Cesc is pretty good (dunno who one middle left is). I would have the same if it was United players instead, the missus wouldn't like it but hey ho.

@Chronic

There is no such thing as Soccer, it's the same as most American words - as a country you were too stupid to make up your own language so you bastardised everyone elses.

@Relic Kylias

Geeks, damn geeks

Soccer is for teh gheys. It can however be made amusing...

Search: "binocular soccer" - way more fun than watching unecducated, borderline retarded millionaires, kicking a fucking ball around and trying to look injured.

Football -> Rugby Football (a mutation of Football, developed in the town of Rugby) -> American Football (a mutation of Rugby Football where they wear padding because they don't want to get hurt - wimps).

Yay for pointless "soccer" argument. Stop baiting us, Sterling.

It's obvious that football has to be a game where you run around with a ball in your hands. That's why it's called football - you run with your feet while holding a ball. That is also the reason the players run on their hands in handball.

Football is ace. I could go into many reasons, but I won't bother. Fifa 10 is ace - no shame in it holding U2 off the top of the charts for now.

Incidently, SC, is it that Fifa 10 held off U2 that brough about your sarcasm? That's a bit OTT isn't it? Everyone knows that Fifa shifts like hotcakes - people are more interested in the Fifa franchise, than they are the Uncharted one (at least they are this week). That doesn't make Britain stupid, mate.

Seriously, it should be the Daily Mail that shames you this week, not the friggin' puter charts!! ;o)

Ah, yay for the 'selective' method of providing news.

Fifa > U2 for one week or U2 sells in first week in North America? Could even do both, but then that would be really providing all around news...

Honestly, this is like saying a Final Fantasy game released the same week as U2 would sell more

And, honestly, who cares about first week sales when it's kind of obvious that most PS3 users who would ever considering picking up U2 will pick it up. Just because they pick up Fifa first really doesn't matter.

wow i can tell just how many of you out there are either too fat ,too skinny,
or just plain out an uncoordinated flop.
football or soccer as the U.S. calls it
is the most enduring exercise one can engage in
there are 90 min of running the with one break in the middle thats it
you know how many people play football all over the world...
all of them that aren't fat lazy or retarded

but i digress
fifa is selling so well because
international football (soccer) is THE BIGGEST SPORT IN THE WORLD.

p.s. thats why you wont see anyone from the NFL in the Olympics

Jim, you can hardly use the All-Formats chart to compare the sales between a multiplatform game and an exclusive game as it favours the multiplatform one especially when it's something like FIFA that's on every platform under the sun. If you want to make a good comparison use the individual formats chart:
http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p/software/uk/latest/index_test.jsp&ct=110032

Also, FIFA may be like a homing beacon for chavs but for the past couple of years it's actually been a good game and has been a critical success. All things considered there have been worse games sitting at the top of the charts that are much more deserving of our ire than FIFA is.

Fifa on every platform... Uncharted on one.

@Onlineatron,

seriously? That's like the only game that was released on PS3 in October, so yeah, I would expect it to be No.1 on PS3 only chart. Please, think before you write!

That chart is very deceiving and seems like it wants to favor U2. Regardless, FIFA sold more copies than U2.

Mr Pibb's Avatar - Comment posted on 10/19/2009 12:42

@ Czech Monster: You're joking, right? The chart isn't deceptive, it's from the source that Jim got his chart. It doesn't "want to favor Uncharted 2" any more than it "wanted to favour" FIFA 10 last week. http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p%2Fsoftware%2Fuk%2Farchive%2Findex_test.jsp&ct=110032&arch=t&lyr=2009&year=2009&week=41

The fact is that individual format charts remain a more consistent way of comparing the sales of different games than All-formats charts. Since a game like FIFA which is released on PS2, PS3, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and DS can't be directly compared with a game like Uncharted that is only released on one platform or even Brutal Legend which is only released on 2 consoles. It's for this same reason that when the NPD release their North American sales numbers later today it will be as an individual formats chart.

And second place is bad how?

I suppose all other companies were stupid to put out their games during the 50 weeks that Wii Fit was at the top of the charts?

I doubt it would have sold much more without FIFA on the charts at all.

Also, yes Soccer/Football is an incredibly athletic and skillful sport, but that doesn't mean it isn't still boring as fuck.

Sorry, world at large. I'll never understand your infatuation with a game that's almost as boring as Baseball.

Also, Baseball is god-awful.

I'm jus' sayin' there are millions of people out there who will buy the latest version of a sports game over the highest rated game since GTA4. Be it Fifa, Madden, or, um, do they buy an annual sports game in Japan/Asia?

Stupid.

I for one, hear good things about Fifa 10, however I refuse to pay full launch game price for the next itteration of an anual sports game, you know the one's they literally give away pre-owned in a year.

Rofl at the 90 minutes with one break comment! Dude I watch soccer and I see players just standing around for a few minutes if the ball isn't in their area so blow that shit out your ass. And if you want to talk about who is tougher, the Brits get housed by everyone in combat sports lol!

Point is get over yourselves, Britain is just a bunch of loud mouth pricks that clings on to the fact they were an empire hundreds of years ago and are now irrelevant. You guys and the French should hang out :)
