UK Charts: Prototype consumes The Sims photo

I enjoy Prototype, but I never expected it to do as well as it's been doing. For some reason, the completely original IP that hasn't been given a huge push by Activision has actually made its way to number one in the UK Charts. It debuted at number two last week and I expected it to drop a few places. This is surprising news indeed.

Ghostbusters debuts at number four, but otherwise it's the same old story, with Wii Fit, World at War and other UK Chart mainstays putting in their regular appearances. Oh, and inFAMOUS has slipped right down to number 18, probably because of our totally correct and proper review. Hit the jump for the full list.

  1. Prototype
  2. The Sims 3
  3. Wii Fit
  4. Ghostbusters
  5. Call of Duty: World at War
  6. Red Faction: Guerrilla
  7. UFC 2009: Undisputed
  8. EA Sports Active
  9. Virtua Tennis 2009
  10. Grand Slam Tennis
  11. Professor Layton & the Curious Villageadmin - Editing post
  12. FIFA 09
  13. Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings
  14. Mario Kart Wii
  15. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  16. Pokemon Platinum
  17. Guitar Hero: Metallica
  18. inFAMOUS
  19. Arma II
  20. Resident Evil5

inFamous was number one aswell.

Most new titles come out at number and then drop.

"inFamous was number one aswell."

No it wasn't. inFAMOUS debuted at number five and went down from there.

I live in the UK. I went into my local GAME and Gamestation stores to see inFamous sitting at the number one spot on several occasions.

Oh well if a store said so, the official UK charts must be lying.

@Onlineatron

Give it a rest. I live in the UK and Gametstation or Game (same company) wouldn't have a clue if it bit them in the arse. Besides isn't that just their own chart?

@Kohlstream
Agree about Ghostbusters but haven't played new RF yet on account of hating the last two. You reckon it's worth a shot?

InFamous actually hasn't done that badly considering that it's only available on a console with a far lower userbase in the UK.

The Uk is poor right now, most people have to settle for an Xbox and as such have probably bought Prototype over inFamous.

Don't get me wrong, i thought the demo was shite so i didn't buy it, but i didn't buy prototype either.

Lots of people would JUST prefer the Xbox. I know people that coloud EASILY afford a PS3 but just don't want it (And welfare kids get wiis. Trust me on that.)

That's just in the UK, and that doesn't count because we all know the UK is a fairy land made up place.

Just because we have wings and leave dust behind us doesn't mean we are fairies.

Also, I told no less that five people to buy Prototype, four of them did. I am ENTIRELY RESPONCIBLE FOR THIS. HOORAY.

I could afford a PS3. I just don't want one. I lose enough of my life to the one console - having two is pointless. Especially as I already have the best one ;0p

As a Uk citizen I resent that... Now me a Pan are off to the labyrinth so we'll discuss this later.

@Sexual Chocolate - Actually the PS3 does very well in the UK. Street
Fighter IV sold better on the PS3 over in the UK, than it did on the 360. The PS3 had the biggest European launch ever as well.
I didn't buy either Prototype or inFAMOUS. inFAMOUS bored the hell out of me, and Prototype is fun, but isn't worth the asking price IMO.
Also what the hell are you on about "the UK is poor right now"? So is the world! There's a global recession happening! I think publishers should reduce the price of many games at the moment (Terminator Salvation for example), because games should be sold for the price they're worth.

Prototype is that weird case in where the developer/publisher didn't think their game would do very well, so they didn't polish it up and decided beforehand not to do a lot of publicity or support for it after release. And then surprise surprise!

Prototype is not worth its $70 price tag in Canada in m opinion. Although the moves were very unique and awesome I just don't care for the repetitive side missions and some of the main missions objectives were pointless "defend this fence for this amount of time.. now defeat the rest of the enemies.. WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST TELL ME TO KILL ALL THE ENEMIES THEN". Pretty sweet that it went from 2nd to 1st though. Although I'd love to see where the PS3 Prototype ended up because I'd imagine PS3 games wouldn't be very high up due to the cost for the system. If those numbers include both the Xbox 360 and PS3.. then I'm surprised people find it shocking that its kicking inFamous' ass in sales... inFamous isn't on two systems and it is on the system that is doing the worst out of the three.. I'd expect sales not to be high either.

What is with people trying to equate poverty with owning a 360? There are people who can afford a PS3 that simply prefer the 360. These silly PS3 fan mutterings that if own a 360 you must be on state assistance sounds just as moronic as Sony's early press statements of "This is LIVING"...are Sony fans really so stupid that they actually believed that bullshit?

Sexualchocolate, do you think that because you own a PS3 that you are a baller? Or do you really consider the PS3 some sort of status symbol like owning a BMW or paying $1000s for some goofy rims? What do mean England is poor? Have looked around in the states? What's does that comment even mean? Settling for the 360 because they can't afford a PS3....do you even read what you write before you post it? What you wrote is ignorant, classist, and has little to do with why people decide to buy one game/console over another. Again, some of you fanboys are seriously hurting the brand (Sony) you care so much about with your inane comments and stances.

I read an interview with Rod Humble yesterday about The Sims. He said that when they release a game the player base is mostly male. After it has been out for a while, it has a mostly female player base.

I expect The Sims 3 to be back on top soon and for a long time. Bad news for chav header pics.

Even if 'Britain is currently poor', the video gamers of the UK have no idea, they're too busy playing games to take notice of recession.
