UK Charts: Football continues to outshine World War II photo

It's Tuesday, and that means another look at the always unimaginative UK Charts. FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War have been jockeying for the number one slot for a while, but FIFA has held firm for a second week, proving that England's love of football eventually over-rules England's love of killing people from other countries -- though it's always a close-run thing.

Otherwise, the usual chav-pleasing stuff fills the chart. Are there seriously people in England left alive who don't own Need for Speed yet want it? For a country that's not very big, a ridiculous amount of people are still purchasing Wii Fit as well. Hopefully by the time February hits, we'll have something different to talk about. Until then, it's the usual story.

I apologize for my homeland's boring, boring sales chart.

  1. FIFA 09
  2. Call of Duty: World at War
  3. Need for Speed: Undercover
  4. Wii Fit
  5. Wii Play
  6. Guitar Hero: World Tour
  7. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic
  8. Quantum of Solace
  9. Lego Indiana Jones
  10. Mario Kart Wii
  11. Carnival: Fun Fair Games
  12. Far Cry 2
  13. Brain Training
  14. Fallout 3
  15. Gears of War 2
  16. Guitar Hero III
  17. 100 Classic Book Collection
  18. Lego Batman
  19. Sonic Unleashed
  20. Prince of Persia

No need to apoligize Jim. Fifa selling so well is a good thing. EA could use the cash, as evidenced by their supposed upcoming job cuts, and really, they deserve it imo. They took a lot of chances with original IP this year and it was a shame seeing them do exactly what we always wanted yet not reaping the rewards we all claimed they would.

Activision on the other hand, well, they can suck my cock.

Fifa 09 was one of my games of 2008. Top 5, no doubt about it.

It's actually sold 2 million in the UK now. That is about 3% of the population, which is ludicrous. It stays top as it sells well on ALL formats.

I can't understand why Ned For Speed sels so well. That is some brand recognition they have built up there.

Technically, killing people in video games isn't the moral equivalent of killing real people.

However, from a purely moral perspective, video game soccer is just as boring as regular soccer.

I don't mind FIFA having the top spot as this year's version is actually really good. What really bothers me is that I probably couldn't care less about the next 10 games on that chart.

Now, don't be down folks. Fallout 3 managed to get on that list, and it's a pretty good game. My PipBoy bobblehead agrees.

Well, at east FIFA this year is really really good. Big problem is with all these people buying it, so many people you meet online are fucking idiots. Why do you play 10v10 if you are not going to pass the fucking ball!?!?!

Wow, such hate, they're only Chavs. Pity the little annoying ignorant bastards.

But yes that is a very very mainstream lineup - but what do you expect huh? Its the bestseller chart not the "most-quirky-indie-obscurity" chart.

jesus sterling, can you give the chav shit a break? not only is the joke wearing thin, but it's becoming almost offensive and revealing you to be some sort of sociopath.

Half the population is fat, and wants to do something about it, albeit in a very half-assed way.

THe other half is fat, and couldn't care less, they're happy controlling other vastly-better paid girlymen around a pitch.
