UK Charts: Empire totally kills Killzone 2 photo

Empire: Total War claims the top spot this week, knocking Killzone down a peg after last week's short-lived triumph. The strategy game from Sega seems to be just too tempting for Britain's chavs and skinheads, leaving the PS3 FPS to enjoy a spot at number two.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X debuts at number four, but that's the only new entry in a sea of familiar faces. Wii Fit, Professor Layton and FIFA 09 all make their regular appearances, while Halo Wars slips from two to five. Call of Duty: World at War is still hanging on in the top ten at number nine. Nothing really interesting happening.

Hit the jump for the full UK charts. Because about three of you care.

  1. Empire: Total War
  2. Killzone 2
  3. Wii Fit
  4. Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X
  5. Halo Wars
  6. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
  7. Street Fighter IV
  8. FIFA 09
  9. Call of Duty: World at War
  10. Ben 10: Alien Force
  11. Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection
  12. Disney's Bolt
  13. Silent Hill: Homecoming
  14. Wii Play
  15. Grand Theft Auto IV
  16. Mario Kart Wii
  17. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
  18. Guitar Hero: World Tour
  19. Need for Speed: Undercover
  20. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

I hope Persona 4 breaks into the top 20 at least next week.

I don't hold much hope about it though.

I feel kinda bad about Persona 4. On the one hand I want it to do well, but at the same time I imported it, effectively screwing over the EU release. I tried to balance it out by buying Disgaea 3 instead of importing that, so that could be okay (I think the same publisher?). Still, I can see sales being affected by the fact it took so damn long.

Hey Jim,
I kinda' like these "charts" articles that you do, but I have two quick questions: first, which charts are you reporting on? I'm assuming it's a UK based sales analyst firm.
Second, why don't we have this feature for any of the other territories of the world? (I'm thinking US, personally...)

@Xandersan

I'm the opposite of how you've done it, I got the US Disgaea 3 and have a P4 coming for release day.

I think the sales are going to be affected by the fact that Persona and Shin Megami Tensei aren't at the forefront of the market here.
Even Dragon Quest doesn't do great over here. Disgaea 3 and Persona 4 are being published Square-Enix , I'm glad they know quality when they see it.

@CountingConflict
That's a chav.

Remoraz:

Question 1: The chart information is collected by Chart Track, which is run by videogame rep ELSPA.

Question 2: I mostly do the UK ones simply because I come from the UK, and it gives me an excuse to post chav pics. I also am very lazy and can't be bothered to find a US chart listing.

I know why Empire: total war is at number one. It's the only game that lets the British Imperial Army defeat those pesky Yankees in that little skirmish known as the Revolutionary War. hah.

The best policy.

Also, is number 9 a typo or is Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare really coming in twice, just to rub it in the face of Waorld at War?

Did you UK fellas just get Layton or something? I thought the release date was November 2008?

Either way, they're taking far too long to bring the sequels over. It's almost going on 2 years now since Professor Layton 2's release.

But but but... PC GAMING IS DEAD?! DIDN'T YOU HEAR?!

Sidenote: Almost no charts count digital distribution purchases. The sales on this game may have been quite higher than even this indicates....

Quick question; for which reason are we assuming that chavs are responsible for Empire: Total War being number one? Because they make up the majority of the UK gaming populace OR because Empire: Total War has some perverse appeal to pasty, slumped, psychotically questionable, cherry-cock cum-factories other that PC gamers?

In all fairness the same thing happened with Halo 3. I think FIFA knocked that off the top spot after the first week at number one.
