UK Charts: Cricket tops an all-sport spectacular photo

Samit Sarkar would be proud this week, as the UK Chart is full to the brim with sports. The top five games are sports- or fitness-related, with Ashes Cricket 2009 ruling over them all. Cricket is a ludicrous game, but British people love it, so it's no surprise to see it come out on top.

Outside of Ashes Cricket's debut, you know the score by now. More Wii games, more Call of Duty, more Harry Potter. The charts this week are as predictable as a rapist at a "vulnerable drunk women in dark rooms" party. You can hit the jump for the usual list of crap that you don't really care about, since you're just here for the horrible chav images.

  1. Ashes Cricket 2009
  2. Wii Sports Resort
  3. Wii Fit
  4. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10
  5. Fight Night Round 4
  6. Harry Potter and the Half-Sports Prince
  7. Call of Juarez: Bound in Sports
  8. Mario Kart Wii
  9. G-Sports
  10. The Sims 3 (of Sports)
  11. Call of Duty: Sports At War
  12. FIFA 09
  13. Call of Duty 4: Modern Sportsfare
  14. EA Sports Active
  15. Wii Play
  16. Transformers: Revenge of the Sports
  17. Prototype and some Sports in it as well a bit
  18. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
  19. Guitar Hero: World Sports
  20. Professor Layton and the Village of Eternal Sports

The sad thing is, so few people will actually read the charts and notice.

Every time I see G-Sports, I think back to the awesomeness of G-Police and to a lesser extent, G-Police: Weapons of Justice. Someone needs to ressurect that franchise...God knows what G-Sports is. Nor do I care.

PAKISTAN ZINDABAD. Does it have a twenty20 style tournament option?

Wow! Every game in this chart has something to do with sports.

Oh come on! Cricket isn't a real sport. You don't even have to be athletic to play it.

this makes me sad. i think it means yoof of the UK would rather play sports games on their consoles than play sports.
i thought computer games were all about escaping to a virtual reality where you could do what you couldnt do in reality...

Damn you for reminding me. I need to go and dig up both of those games from the loft now.

Also, yay for the sales figures confirming that the general British public have NO FUCKING TASTE.

I'm going to hold my head hi and boast like a smug bastard now. I am the designer for the Wii version of Cricket and at the moment I couldn't be more chuffed. =D Thank you to the British public for making me a happy man.

Also, go Codemasters. First British publisher at the top of the all formats chart since the start of 2007! Gotta give some kudos there! =)

drinking large amounts of alcohol should be a sport.

I watched the news the other day and saw the results of the World Championship Sauna Sport or something. it was a sport revolving entirely around sitting in a sauna for the longest amount of time possible without leaving. I had no goddamn idea that was a real sport. also: the only people that won and claimed higher spots on the results list were all Russian and Finnish. it took place in Finland as well.

just wanted to share.

I hate being British, we love our licensed games and our games must consist of FIFA/PES a Call of Duty game and GTA. :( This is embarrassing.
