Call of Duty: World at War needed just one more week at the top of the chart to claim a record for most number of weeks held leading to a Christmas number one. Unfortunately for Activision, FIFA 09 has claimed the top spot, batting the cynical sequel down to number two. This marks the first time I'm happy to see something related to soccer win at anything.
And yes, I meant to type "soccer."
As always, the usual games are making up yet another unimaginative UK chart, with Mario Kart Wii, Need for Speed and Brain Training all making their weekly appearances. The only truly noteworthy thing this week is the fact that Professor Layton and the Curious Village is at number nine. Otherwise, UK gamers are still buying the same old crap.

I've been calling it Soccer since long before I came to the US, just because I hate the sport and its zealous fans so much.
EAST COAST PHILLY BAYBEE WEA U AT?
They've got to Jim!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
@Tehmtnlion
I don't think they're english, isnt that a lakers shirt?? Besides if they were english you'd already be dead.
A house-mate bought Fifa 09, I mocked but now realize some good did come of its purchase. Hurrah for sliver linings.
You sir get an internet high five.
Those guys are chavs. Ali G is sort of chav-ish, but he kind of predates them. However, they both emerge out of the same culture.
Yep because you don't get zealots who live and breath videogames.
Look at their pasty, pale skin. They have the token black guy and two other people of questionable ethnicity. Sounds like England's M.O.
Plus the article is about the UK's charts.
Behold logic in all it's glory.
@Jim Sterling
High five for pissing off my ex, she's a massive Man U fan and hates the term "soccer".
chips = fries
biscuits = cookies
we'll start you off small. soon enough, you'll speak proper american instead of that english stuff thats so popular across the pond.
Of course you do, but videogame zealots aren't skinheaded thugs who incite riots.
I guarantee you soccer has been the root cause of more death and violence than videogames ever have. Yet no tabloid will ever declare that soccer should be banned.
Mr Sterling, could you please tell us what your chosen UK top 5 would be this season?
I have been to 'rock' clubs and the people there look just as absurd
you sir, are ignorant for assuming that the people in this photo are all..
"ignorant people who are walking/talking gimmicks with a 5 word vocabulary posing to be someone they're not"
and
"a bunch of mongoloids who can speak/spell properly"
*i'll assume you meant can't
Also, perhaps you wouldn't be of the opinion..
"the music is pathetically un-talented and annoying as hell"
..If you had bothered to dig a little further than the charts. How cross would you have been, if, i had called all rock music cheesy and camp because my parents had showed me some 70's rock videos?
calm down and have a think before you attack a culture and then claim to..
"have a strong interest in other cultures"
Cash rules everything around me, C.R.E.A.M. Get the money, dolla dolla bill, ya'll.
Care to retort, good sir?
I don't know how a blog post about the UK video game sales charts turned into this outlet for raging against rap music. Arguing about music goes nowhere, STFUAJPG.
You cant just dislike a whole sport because of a few people, let alone generalizing and calling football fans skin head thugs. What about the good things that have happened because of football?
Sorry, but the "football religion" culture has always disgusted me. Hell, when you consider the amount of money it makes and the violence that has stemmed from it, calling football a religion could never have been more fitting.
I dislike football itself because I find it boring. If you like it, that's your thing, whatever. I don't actually want it banned or anything. I just think that if we were banning things for causing terrible shit to happen, I'd pick football waaaay before games.
Forgive me, but having lived in the UK all my life i've never seen a single person wearing an American team's shirt. Maybe its an inner city thing?
@MotoRobo
You don't know the half of it.
