Batman: Arkham Asylum is a great game. What's more, it's a great game at the top of the UK Chart, a position usually reserved for bad games that the idiotic general public lap up. This almost qualifies as a paradox, and I'm fairly certain that the British consumers need to be warned that they're buying a good game instead of the usual garbage. They might be disappointed when they get home and realize it isn't terrible.
A few notable things happen in the chart this week. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has outsold World at War for once, probably due to how close we are to Modern Warfare 2's release date. Dissidia: Final Fantasy debuts in tenth place, while IL2 Sturmovik arrives in sixth.
Hit the jump for the usual list of things that British people have been buying.
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Wii Sports Resort
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
- Wii Fit
- Ashes Cricket 2009
- IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, each version only beat it by about 100,000/130,000 each: http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly.php?date=40055&boxartz=1#
Also Jim you could just show a BNP member as a header and that would be shameful enough.
The British say so!
Ha, the jokes on you, I can't tell the difference.
How come there isn't an American weekly chart to go with this one? I'm sure they also buy shitty games, and I'm sure there's a subset of American youths whose photos one could laugh at.
PS. Goverment ('cough' taxpayer) funded healthcare is better! Health 4 everyone not just the rich FTW!
Plus the UK market is only 1/4 of the US market so it's not even like a game doing well in the UK is an indicator of anything on a global scale.
We British buy crap because we either desire to be unimpressed or are spastics slowly poisoning the country (pictured in header).
Wii Sports Resort is fun! It's way ahead of the original with respect to games that actually make me want to play it. I just finished Arkham Asylum and I think it's a great game, too. But the two are not comparable and target totally different markets.
I love ya, Jimbo, and I've been an Anglophile since I was a lad, but this is one obsession that I just do not understand.
And this has in no way to do with the fact that I spent most of my time in that lovely country in Cornwall. Errrrrr. Grrrrrrr.
Or as we call them in Austria: Picaldiopfer.
