UK Charts: Alan Wake trounced by FIFA photo

It's not often that a hyped Xbox 360 game fails to win the UK Charts for at least its debut week, but Alan Wake drew the short straw in going up against one of a billion FIFA games to have released recently. As always, Britain's obsession with the absurd sport of soccer has seen the latest FIFA title stay in top position, with Alan Wake relegated to second place.

Lost Planet 2, which we hated, debuts in third place, while Skate 3 comes in at number five. As promotion for Call of Duty: Black Ops gains ground, we also see a reemerging Call of Duty: World at War popping in at fifteenth place. All in all, it's a slightly more interesting UK Chart than we're used to, so hit the jump for the latest.

  1. 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa
  2. Alan Wake
  3. Lost Planet 2
  4. Just Dance
  5. Skate 3
  6. Battlefield: Bad Company 2
  7. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  8. Final Fantasy XIII
  9. Wii Fit Plus
  10. Wii Sports Resort
  11. GTA Episodes: Liberty City
  12. Super Street Fighter IV
  13. Just Cause 2
  14. Splinter Cell: Conviction
  15. Call of Duty: World at War
  16. Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing
  17. Aliens vs. Predator
  18. Iron Man 2
  19. James Cameron's New Clothes
  20. New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Gotta love the BNP - The party that never left the 80's.

I think UYK charts are more interesting than US charts, not only because I'm here! But also because the USA is far more American product centric, with such a huge gap between PS3 and Xbox over there it's almost a given that an Xbox exclusive will do well, where as over here, with the more balanced spread of consoles an exclusive game has got to be really good to outsell multiplats.

Hehehe, say it like her of the 5th elephant, "multiplats?"

Alan Wake did very well. Only one platform and only a few days of sales. I suspect we'll see a drop off next week.

secondly, you are ripping on someone elses interest without really saying why you think its absurd. eh w.e

Poraro -- American football is a derivative of sports like rugby (which in turn is called rugby football because it is, in itself, a version of football developed at the Rugby School) and Australian rules football.

So, the name is a reflection of its history, even if the rules have changed a whole lot over the course of history.

Just like the Tea Party is a historical reflection of the Confederate history eh? ;)

Happy to see Alan Wake at number 2, that bodes well at least for the future DLC episodes after the first couple. Now we only have to hope it doesn't take 3 years till the end of the season...

The main reason I dislike soccer/football/whatever is because many of it's fans think liking a sport is license to be an absolute idiot. It's ridiculous how obsessed some of these dumb asses are.

Back on topic, I can't help but wonder how Red Dead Redemption will do in non-North American countries. Is the rest of the world interested in Old West type sceneries?

Good choice for a header, Jim. Nice celebration of an election where we gave the BNP the kick in the balls it so sorely deserved! If anyone wants to read more about Unite... http://www.uaf.org.uk/

They lost the election for all the seats they contested - Tee hee meant that they did not lose any seats because they never held any in the first place.

Nothing to do with unite, local council elections where held along with the national so you got more people putting the 'X' in the box. The BNP vote was drowned, it didn't decrease or change to labour.

next council election they'll be back in

@sexualchocolate... american product centric? the PS2, PS3, and PSP have destroyed the xbox and the 360 here, not to mention nintendo outsells them all. and remedy, the company that developed alan wake is based in finland. have you been to this place lately? nobody buys american. fifa was developed by a massive wing of EA, an american company. you buy american my friend. not americans lol

@Professor Pew -- uhh no? The Tea Party is a reference (ugh) to the American Revolution. The Confederacy is a totally different thing.

Anyway, I'm just going to leave this link here so that next week, maybe we won't have this inane discussion about "football" vs. "soccer": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football

I think dtoid just needs to stop reporting on anything that has to do with soccer games, we have the same argument in the comments every time.

1. Dtoid story referencing soccer
2. British people saying it's football
3. Americans saying it's soccer and that american football is better
4. British people talk about rugby
5. Americans saying football players are better athletes
6. British people disagree because rugby players don't wear pads
7. Americans bring up WW2

It gets old and yet I can never help myself, especially when I remember both my grandfathers personally flew over to Europe to snatch those limeys from the jaws of Hitler himself, so the least they can do is let me call their stupid sport whatever I want.

The Tea Party was totally different two years ago, I swear it was. I think mainly it had to do with Ron Paul basing his campaign with it, however, Beck and Palin latched on to that like a turd to a long piece of hair during the last presidential election.
It's a god damn shame, at least for me. Now, I have to associated myself with the Grand Old Phail again.

Jim - I think your title and story give Alan Wake an unfair shake. Wake finished just 1000 units (on Xbox only) behind the multi-platform FIFA. Likewise, Wake was on for sale for 2 days that week, whereas FIFA was on sale 7 days. Also, wake finished first on the single skew chart. But you fail to mention any of that and by omitting this information, you paint a falsely negative picture. Given the amount of people you reach, that could really hurt the game. Just my two cents. Game Track's title is "FIFA Just Holds Off", your is "Trounced". Seems Odd to me. http://www.chart-track.co.uk/?i=856&s=1111
