This is kind of like that.
not the version of the unreal engine that Epic said wouldn't run. And i don't think it's a matter of laziness OR giving up to easily, rather it's a matter of not working backwards. Epic is working with newer tech. What possible benefit comes from backtracking to meet Nintendo's low hardware standards? But whatever, fanboys are gonna see this as some sort of personal victory when in reality it's simple business. You don't make progress back tracking.
Maybe Epic just doesn't want a 3DS game that looks like a PSX game. I'm really not sure. The stuff I have seen on the 3DS wasn't that bad but nowhere near something like Infinity Blade.
Yeah, you're right, what's the point of trying to make anything compatible for a particular system? Epic in the future should only make their engines useful for multi-million-dollar super computers.
Didnt you know? Fanboy brains are all impulse. Hate first, avoid admitting being wrong later.
Does anyone know if the 3DS actually has enough power to conceivably run UE3? Or is it something that would have to be downgraded so much it'd be an act of pointlessness? I'd be curious to know, as I have no knowledge of stuff like this.
Honestly I think Jim is partially to be blamed, he himself made it seem as if Ubisoft had the UE3 running on 3DS. He never specified which engine it was, it seems that he never even knew which engine it was in the first place.
Still, people shouldn't have jumped on the epic hate train so quickly.
I hate Epic because Cliffy is a douchenozzle and the whole snobby "our engine is too advanced for your little plastic toy" mentality is really ugly. Unreal's a nice engine, but it's a company of assholes.
Unreal Engine was supposedly impossible on the wii too, and then John Carmack said that they've managed to port entire Rage on the WII parts of which were later ported to the iPhone.
@Noir Trilby,
both Bioshock games were based on Unreal Engine 2.5 just like both Red Steel games, Killing Floor, Duke Nukem Forever, Splinter Cell Conviction or Double Agent and this game to this day looks good on original xbox.
Not having Epic's support however is quite a hit against the 3DS, whether you like them or not.
I don't doubt that man but what I said was....... "he just doesn't want to work with his engine on the 3ds"
I'm sure he doesn't mind other devs using the unreal engine on the 3rd but I suspect (and made clear in my first comment) that is appears epic doesn't want to do that.
That's interesting. I didn't realise both Bioshock games used Unreal Engine 2.5 - I mean they both still hold up really well. Thanks for the info!
Take a look at the pictures of Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D. They're not as pretty as Resident Evil 5.
@ All the Epic haters: You people need to get a life. This company has never done anything wrong or anything to hurt you. They are very good at what they do and it's not their fault that their ideals aren't the same as Nintendo's. Cliffy B is who he is, he doesn't have to be the same as all of you. He's not going around talking shit about everybody. There's nothing wrong with flaunting and being proud of your extremely high quality games. I've heard him say shit about Zelda influencing him and stuff. He just doesn't want to make those games.
What the fuck is wrong with that? And sure, Rein can be a bit arrogant, but if you ask the fucking guy what he thinks about something should he lie to be civil or just tell you how he feels? I'd hope you'd want people to be honest in this world.
Gamers are so fucking spoiled and entitled. Who the fuck died and made you guys the fucking Elder Council of Gaming? God forbid that the people who make big dumb shooters have an opinion or are intelligent or any of that. No, they're just insensitive assholes who are destroying your precious hobby by associating you with mindless shooters, right?
I thought only PC gamers were supposed to be elitist?
Everything you just said is perfect. I can't fault a single thing you've just posted.
This misplaced sense of entitlement added to the massive amount of people who seem to think that the industry owes them a favour is sickening.
This kind of shit makes me think that the online blog side of gaming is something I want no part in.
I love games. I love reading about and talking about games. That's why I joined. Most the time all I see are spoiled brats talking shit. It's a sorry state of affairs.
I don't have an issue with what you said, for the most part. If Epic doesn't think it's worth optimizing Unreal 3 for 3DS then that is their call. Likewise, if someone does alter Unreal 3 to run on a 3DS then kudos to them, but to fault Epic would be childish. We're talking about businesses who have their own sets of goals and priorities. What they want to do is totally up to them.
HOWEVER.
That Cliffy B. guy once said "buttons square, triangle--it's like putting Kanji on the ******* thing" when talking about the Playstation controller. I still consider that to be one of the stupidest things I've ever read in my life. Like, it actually physically twists my brain level of stupid.
