Ubisoft teasing another Assassin's Creed? (Update) photo

Ubisoft Montreal is such a tease. On its UbiWorkshop Twitter account, it's taken the opportunity to tease an upcoming project with a single image, as seen above.

The imagery is reminiscent of its Assassin's Creed IP, with a hooded figured standing near a flying eagle. The mysterious man stands in what appears to be a desert, with pyramids and a rising sun in the distance, hinting at an Egyptian location. This "secret project" image also features a emblem which features the letters "AC" on the top; the image itself is also called "Assassin." Could we be getting a peek at an unannounced Assassin's Creed project?

"Oh, and before you ask, this has nothing to do with Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood," the account holder adds.

Maybe we'll hear more at E3, or maybe not -- Ubisoft has already confirmed that Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will make an appearance; shilling two titles based on the same IP might not be in its best interest.

[Before it's asked or mentioned, the account appears to be legit -- Ubisoft's official Twitter account lists it as a dedicate Ubisoft account.]

[Update: The publisher has confirmed this "secret project" is not a game. It's been pointed out that Ubisoft is working closely with comic book artists; it's likely that this may be an Assassin's Creed-related comic book off-shoot.]

If it is another Assassin's Creed game I'm all for it. But they're only winning me over with the Egyptian aspect at the moment. I havent played 2 yet, but one was enjoyable albeit extremely flawed.

An Assassin's Creed comic, maybe? A lot of games are doing that now.

Keep on milkin' that cow, Ubisoft. Milk it until the teats are dry and withered.

That looks cool, thank god they didn’t go with the WW2 idea. Since it’s the end of the trilogy something tells me they won’t stick with any one main character, but they’ll jump around through locations and time following an overarching plot, maybe chasing the last piece of eden through generations.

Looks like another glorified rental title is on the way from Ubisoft. Act surprised.

I would welcome another Assassin's Creed game, since Brotherhood feels more like an expansion than a fully fledged sequel.

However, I am not sure how to feel about an Egyptian setting...

When you play AC2, you can get hints about some assassins that existed in history. Egypt could be one of them. To those that didn't like the first one, I still suggest to try the second one.

Hey, I like me some Assassin's Creed... even the first one; but really Ubisoft there is such thing as too much. Now if it's not a game, but rather a comic or an other live action short series or the like, that I'd be all for. Having said that I am digging the character design here.

Antony and Ross are probably right. There's a lot of history to learn about in the AC universe and I doubt every timeline can get its own game. A comic series would definitely be the smart way to go. I'd buy it.

It's an assassin in a culture that deified the sun. Sounds fitting to me with regard to the AC lore.

Black people indeed. :)
that's Giza, a bald eagle and a black dude in desert/assasin's gear. This either a teaser for AC3 or another spinoff. There are multiple Animuses (ANIMII?). This is either
1) a modern assasin
2) an ancient assasin played back in a memory
3)a modern assasin with live ancestral memories outside the animus (like in AC2)

Clearly AC related. The costume and blade give it away for a start.

Kind of a shame, I was hoping for a Feudal Japanese setting or a Columbus-era thing.

Still, fun.

Somehow I doubt this is AC3. Given that AC2 introduces, I think, 6 different Assassins from different times and cultures, I have a hard time believing they would skip them, so I'm guessing spinoff.

I fact, I don't see how AC can wrap itself up with one more game. The trilogy, IMO, is going to be scrapped and just dragged out until Ubi feels it is time to stop.

the assasins creed games where always destied to be part of a trilogy so your comment is misplace and unfairly harsh. Your comment also shows how little you know.

I'm not sure if this is the next game or Brotherhood, but it does look cool. The pyramids make me think Egypt, but I don't know how that setting would be much different than the first game.

Why are people clamoring for Japan? It would annihilate the coherence to the story. Given that historically Japan was closed up until the 1850's, it would be nearly impossible for one of Desmond's ancestors to live there, and it would be entirely impossible for him blend into a crowd. For his family line to start in the middle east and spread to Egypt and Italy makes historical and gameplay sense. Japan doesn't.

You could argue that you would play a Japanese member of the Assassins, but most likely the assassins would have a difficult time establishing a branch during the feudal era of Japan. It would virtually have to be Meiji era. That also seems an unlikely choice because the over-arching plot is about Desmond. All that set up would be destroyed if the protagonist switches all the sudden.

@Sofik

Way of the Samurai 3 says "WHAT UP BONERS!?"

That said, Egypt AC would be weird. Very samey in settings to AC one, I think.

So there were those 6 super-assassins from AC2. Was one of them this guy?

Could this maybe be a revival of 8 Eyes?

For something that's allegedly AC, the Assassin's symbol just isn't in any of this sketch.

Also, is he holding a head?

To support the new AC angle, though, the Templars and The Moors got into it back in the day. Also, the Moors have a connection to Spain, which could make for some interesting vistas. 14th century sad story about the last Moorish Assassin's Club?

While the Assassin's symbol is missing, it does say AC at the top, it also has an Eagle (Desmond's lineage always has eagle references) and possesses the geometric shapes/cityscape kind of imagery at the bottom of the image. Additionally, his man girder is the kind of thing that all of Desmond's line have worn in the past.

And that is totally a head. Good eye.

@seventhevening: Maybe because its the easiest adaptation, since everyone is familiar to stealth assassins in feudal Japan. Also, when Japan was opened in the 19th century (late Tokugawa era), there were still samurais, ninjas, wooden architecture and other of the most common cliches of the setting. You can even say the new assasin to be the son of a christian evangelist. The architecture of the setting is pretty adecuate for rooftop parkour. If you combine that with the political unease that caracterized that era of "western intrusion", its a pretty good choice for a conspiracy storyline.

And Japan seems more natural than early Egypt. According to the story, the assassins existed to fight the templars, but they come into picture during the crusades... Any interesting setting in ancient Egypt would have to be set in pre-christ years.

Very much so a trademark AC character; Hidden blade, Assassin belt, throwing daggers. The guy even has a head to show for his misdeeds!
But I think they gave better teasers for ACII, what do you think? It's definitely a different style to their custom, so perhaps it's not a new game entirely.

@SKSith I'd more lean towards a comic book adaption, too.

Well the man is artisticly connected with an eagle. In AC games the names Altair and Ezio mean eagle so it gives a good vibe. The character has throwning knives belt, the sword on the very same side as the other 2 and his clothes is very alike to the others. I hove for an AC3 on Egypt :D

A dutch assassin in feudal japan makes perfect sense, as they were the only foreigners let into japan for a long time, and the foreign angle would let him do dirty work.

Egypt is in Africa, not the Middle East you idiots.

If Ubisoft can fix the broken combat, the godawful "stealth," the maddeningly hackish, very very poorly realized Animus/Desmond angle, and the DLC is already on the disc but give us more fucking money...I may check this out. But, it's Ubisoft. The worst publisher/game developer ever.
